Default VAP tune

i have the 5.0 v8 type r my car is out of warranty and I am looking to get more power was hoping some of the tuned f type owners can chime in and lead me in the right direction on what i should get and the supporting mods that are not on vap

do i need to change the pulleys to tune the car or can i leave those stock?

any issues with vap?

I Think the best combination is change the OEM lower crank pulley with ECU Update and TCU Update. It will be save round about 1,5 sec. from 100-200 km/h
0-60 miles round about 3,6 sec., an the car ist much faster as the SVR Version!

As mentioned....The VAP Tune is great. Also the Lower/Crank Pulley, and the TCU Tune will give quick/crisp shifts and add to the enjoyment.

Can also consider (now or later) Better Intercooler, VAP 200 Cell Cats/Downpipes, Methanol/Water Injection, and Fresh Plugs gapped down to .028-.030....

Enjoy.

Appears the difference is the flashing device only...Tune would be the same. Not familiar with the VFlash, but the VTech (at least when I bought mine) uses a Power Gate3 flashing device to install the tune.

I think that depends on model year, but I'd trust VAP to make sure you got what was right for your vehicle.

Can someone speak to what exactly TCU tune does? Are manual downshifts and upshifts noticeably faster with paddle shifters with TCU tune? Curious to hear if transmission feels closer to a double clutch transmission with the TCU tune.

Yes...In Automatic, shift strategy aligns shifts and RPM's better, and in manual mode/paddle shifting, the gear changes are fast(er) and crisp...Near instant in my case, from my experience.

I recently installed the VAP tune without any pulleys. It is quite a noticeable difference. I may upgrade the lower crank pulley later, but can attest that with just the tune, the car is quite a bit quicker. Definitely recommend.

I have the tune without pulley. It's definitely noticeable considering I have a 14 V8s so I went from 495 to around 610.

I have tune, cats, and exhaust. From what I understand, it's only more power because it's a V8s and not an R.

Right, many think the V8S was underrated at 495HP.

I can't imagine how much faster it would be. I have a upper pulley but didn't install because I heard it wouldn't be much power gains. So maybe I'll pull the trigger on the lower Crank this black Friday so I can install them both. I am worried about heat issues tho, but it's not like I'd be racing and doing countless pulls.

Any devices that are not JLR compliant, will leave the battery in a state of discharging. Compliant devices will "CLOSE" the session when done, and not cause battery drain. The ones used by VAP - Any of them, do not cause drain. Generic OBDII devices, will usually not close the session, and the car will "Stay Awake" and cause battery drain. Again, no worries with the proper devices, including the VAP stuff.

So a good question while on the tune/pulley discussion - are lower heat ranged plugs necessary? Is this just a race or drag type change for those who will keep their cars in the upper RPM range for a prolonged period? Thoughts on a spirited weekender needing the plug swap going the lower pulley route?

I can also attest to this. I have the tune only, and it is a noticeable difference, even coming from a 2015 R.

I'm thinking about doing this. Have you had any issues? I've read complaints about cats melting.

I've got a tune and no pulley as well. The only thing on my car that melts are the rear tires.
