Servicing dealer has "no idea" of in-service date?
I called my local dealer to talk about scheduling an oil change. The service writer said she has "no idea" of in-service date of my vehicle but that I could bring it by and they would "top off" the oil if I simply dropped in. In some ways I like the friendly "drop on by anytime" approach but I would still have expected them to know when my car would be due for service based on the VIN number and prior service work they did back in December of '17 (replacing some defective trim pieces).
Now, I did buy the vehicle from a different dealership but isn't it a bit odd that they would not have that information? |
That actually brings up the question: Does Jaguar keep an in house track record of each car details and history? Information available to every dealership? Or do they only rely on Topix?
|
Seems odd as any Jag dealer can service the car, how would they know if the car was still in warranty period?
|
Personally, I would phone Jaguar USA in NJ and let them find out. They were supposed to have online records up and running in July 2018

2nd I would call the dealer you purchased from ! No records is not and answer !!!
|
Maybe you caught him not at his desk or didnt have ddw up, or maybe the original selling dealer did not put in the in service date when sold. All possibilities
|
Every work order I have from my local dealer has the In Service Date and Warranty Expiration on it.

Hint: It rhyme's with Nero |
I think the 'free' (included) service has to be done at 12 months +/- 1 month, or 16,000 miles, +/- 1K miles, whichever comes first.

It does and that was the original premise for why I wrote this concern as ... this particular dealer themselves had "no idea" & realizing that I need to have the service performed based on that specific timeline is why I was originally asking. Since the mileage is not going to be a factor, the only thing that is material is the "in-service" date and getting the service within the correct timeframe |
Sorry, short attention-span theater. ;)

she was at her desk. Didn't seem to think it odd that she not know the in-service date even though the car had been serviced there in dec. She continued to return to "the car will tell you when it needs to be serviced". I could tell from her position that there was no point in arguing logic with her about the other f-types that had blown engines due to oil starvation nor any of the other "techy" things related to the oil levels on these cars. The service i had done at this local dealership was part of the "we owe" items from the original purchase so... You would have thought they had a clue. Oh well, maybe after the storm clears outta here i'll take the 30 minute ride over to the dealership to see if they want to simply "top it off" or if they might be more interested in doing a full oil service here at the 10th month of ownership rather than waiting another month (i hear that they will do them 1 month before the annual service is due but if they haven't a clue as to when annual service is actually due then... I have concerns. Afterall, if they didn't enter the in-service date into their systems what faith should i place in them having properly entered reminder data into the car's systems as well?

Not sure why you insisted on what exit ?
When a NJ resident is asked "Where are you from" we provide the Exit number, since most out-of state folks only experience NJ by travelling on the NJ Turnpike! :icon_doh: |
