Slightly damages rim
 
Hi, guys, I have a quick question. Last night when I started my car, I noticed 0 psi alarm for the right front wheel. Promptly I pushed that green button for jag road side assistance. Long story short, the car got dropped off at the dealership this morning. This afternoon, I got a call from the service manager telling me the tire has been replaced, but there is a slight bent in the inner frame. I have the tire and wheel package, but apparently if the tires can hold air, they won't replace the wheel. Is that standard? Have any of you driven a car with bent inner wheel? Considering it's a sports car, should I push for wheel replacement? I won't be able to get to the dealership till Tom afternoon, so I would like to your thoughts on this. Thanks!!

Ps, my car is 2016 R, and I'm located in northern jersey.

Its dangerous, I understand that the inner portion of the wheel is bent, correct ? If so the tire won't balance, could cause blowout or cause the dire to debead ( come off the rim.)
push for replacement. might become an insurance issue.

At the very least you'll have an annoying vibration at highway speeds.

How bad is the damage?

I had 2 rims with minor damage on a 3 series, caused annoying vibrations on the highway, had to replace them.

Bent wheel not caused by a manufacturing defect won't be covered under warranty. You can get bent wheels fixed for about $100 from specialists assuming the damage is not significant or there are cracks. I had my left front rim fixed in this manner after a pothole hit about a year ago. otherwise you will need to buy a new wheel and likely given high deductibles many of us had its just an out of pocket pain the butt.

I have a 2012 XJL Portfolio and in need of some OEM 20's. Any ideas on where to get some on the cheapo?

Thanks guys. I have to go to the dealership Tom to see how bad it is. The manager said the tie is still holding pressure as that's the reason it's not replaced. He did say sometimes it can cause vibration at high speed, but he thinks that's unlikely. That whole response just sounded fishy to me. I wonder if the tire can't hold the pressure, would they then replace the tire? If not, where should I go to get it fixed? Can dealer do it? The reason I ask is because I assumed that if I have the tire package, I have nothing to worry about. I guess not... But thank you all for the response. Truly appreciate it.

If you have wheel/tire insurance that the dealer sold you, they will have a wheel repair service they work with closely. You should be able to drop off the car at the dealership and have them get the wheel straightened. The wheel will only get replaced if cracked or otherwise can't be fully reconditioned to look like new.

What does the wheel/tire insurance coverage say specifically.? What good is it if it doesn't cover a bent wheel, regardless of resulting performance? It's bent and seems like it's not predictable. Tell them your lawyer will be sure to take this into account for damages when you crash.

That's what I'm going to check first thing today when I get to the dealership. My original thought was as long as there is no performance issue, I will just accept it and move on. God forbid something happens to that wheel again, I always have the insurance to cover the tire and potential further wheel damage. Because it's a lease, I even asked him if it's gonna affect me the day I return the car, and he promised me it's considered normal wear and tear. But now I think I really want to push for at least a wheel correction to fix the issue. This is frustrating. Now considering the low profile tires and the pothole filled roads in Jersey, I'm afraid that rim damage is very likely if I get another flat tire, and the same issue is gonna come up again. I guess these insurance people really do know what they are doing ( sarcasm).

Yeah, it should be straightened at least. To be honest, I'm surprised he didn't say " oh, the wheel is slightly bent, your insurance doesn't cover it, but we can fix it for you for $$$". Also, once it's straightened, would that still cause any performance compromise?

Wheel/tire insurance usually covers aesthetics such as road rash, so bent lips should certainly be covered. No performance compromise of any repair should incurred unless they try to get the wheel welded instead of replaced in the event that it has been cracked. However, they usually will give you the option in the event that it takes a long time to get a replacement. (I am averaging a claim every 4-6 months with the crappy roads around here).

I suppose the bright side is that this is only a $150 fix if you do have to eat it. Find an alloy shop and get a quote, then see if you can get your dealer to pay for it.
