Those two wires are just ground wires (or earth wires for those of you driving on the other side of the street). This is what the wires look like on the adaptive suspension:

Maybe, maybe not.
My S has adaptive suspension and the strut top wiring looks very different:

I have pulled the plug out of the top to show how it looks.
Mine has the same pair of wires going to a bolt on front of (to the left) the strut top but it doesn't have the single wire to the left of those (which looks like an earth wire to me).

All earth wires for various options. I have 3 on the left side of the car and 5 on the right side of the car attached in those locations, one of them being much larger.

Top of my strut looks like Unhingd's picture. I always assumed that unless you have that connector your car does not have variable damping suspension. So my next question is what is the functionality of height ride sensor is in base F-type and why does disconnecting it degrade ride quality?

So what kind of shocks does base trim F-type has?

I suppose the accelerometers and ride height sensors used by the adaptive suspension might also be use by the dynamic stability control. Though looking through various documents, that doesn't appear to be the case - DSC uses wheel speed sensors, steering wheel position, and lateral/yaw accelerometers.

Base has conventional shock absorbers. Don't recall if active suspension is/was an option on the base or not.

I think the ride height sensors were used in the XKR to maintain Xenon headlamp aim.

Good catch. According to the repair manual, if you have adaptive headlights, then that uses two ride height sensors, one on the right front, and one on the right rear. Adaptive suspension would add two on the left side.

Dianne - if there aren't any pictures, it didn't happen. I think I speak for the other pervert on the board in requesting that you post pics (most of the mechanics probably took some) or at the minimum pics of a re-enactment...
