Track Day/Autocross insurance?

I'm interested in attending a track day or autocross event with my car, but it seems like most insurances don't cover it. Does anyone have experience going to these events? Did you get race insurance or did you just skip it?

A buddy of mine stated that he was able to buy "day insurance" for track days on his '16 vette for something like $600 for the day but he owns his free and clear so it is not financed. Some would caution against tracking a leased car. Read your lease coverage and the part about deposits and gap coverage & then see if the track you are planning to run offers track day insurance.

That's why lots of experienced track guys take a fun disposable car like a miata with a roll cage or an older corvette to the track - minimum risk of loss.

Alternatively, if you are going to run your f type, run in an intermediate group and don't go balls out. At 9/10ths you can still have fun and maintain a slight safety margin and avoid the fools going 11/10ths. Also, the last two run groups of a track day are usually much less crowded, thereby lowering your odds of a collision.

One last thought, best to know the group you race with - find guys with a similar philosophy that they are there to have fun, and improve their track times/driving skills, not somehow hope to be discovered as the next wonder boy of racing.
