UK - Dealer Alloy / Tyre & Cosmetic Damage Insurance
Guys,
Just about to buy an 2015 F-Type R AWD
The dealer has offered me the following insurance packages....
Alloy Wheel & Tyre Insurance £500 for 3 yrs
Cosmetic damage Insurance £500 for 3 yrs
Are they worth it? is it easy to make a claim ? I want to keep the car looking nice? So was thinking if these are hassle free then it looks good?
Thoughts ?
Cheers
Pete

to powder coat a single wheel - you're looking in the region of £75-£100 depending on size and obviously who
So you could do 5 wheels in that time frame - only you know how good you are with kerbs on a yearly basis
don't know about cosmetic damage as I'm not sure what they would term cosmetic

I would avoid buying any insurance products from a main dealer - you will paying a hefty markup.
I used ALA for my back to invoice (GAP) insurance and added tyre and wheel insurance to it at the same time.
The B2I was £390 for 5 years cover, the tyre insurance was £210 and the wheel damage insurance was £180. They had a 5% off code when I did it (QU005) which might still be valid if you want to quote with them.
They have a popup with the alloy wheel repair terms in it (I can't link it for some reason as it doesnt work). They, like most, only pay for smart repairs that are done usually in a van or still on the car. A full refurb will not be covered and would need to be claimed for under your normal insurance if needed.

Someone like ALA will definitely be cheaper, although as xdave says, they only do smart repairs to the damaged area (from a mobile company called Revive), not full refurbs.
Just bear in mind that I can't find anyone in the UK that covers diamond-cut wheels, so if the dealer policy will cover these (and you have diamond-cut wheels of course), then you might still want to consider it. I obviously wasn't planning to mash my own wheels up but managed to do two at once going through a damned 7' width restrictor recently...

I can't weigh in on the UK insurance coverage, but I can say this car is as wide as my full-size GMC pickup truck (and it'll just go over a curb if you get too close) and the 30 profile tires and corresponding wheels are very susceptible to damage. In the past 9 months, my $1400 (5 year) ding and wheel coverage has already paid for 3 repairs of the right rear wheel at $125 each and a $425 tire (with m&b). Fortunately no dings yet. I would encourage you to to seriously consider the coverage. Very easy to collect on the insurance here in the U.S.
