Not sure if this is a local dealer thing, my service advisor changing or a directive from JLR Corporate but took the F in for annual service (just oil filter and air filter change) and was immediately suggested we get wheel alignment and cooling flush done on my 2016. I had the wheel alignment done last year after I replaced the godawful P-Zero with MPSS and I've got no tread wear problems (was told by then it would be too late).
How much does that change my "free" included service ? $600 please. Ummm no thanks. |
All dealers service dept do that. Why do you think they always give you a "free" 1000 point inspection with every service? So they can find & recommend additional services (ie: add'l profits). Most owners will say No Thanks, but the fraudulent part is some, like my elderly Mother, feels compelled to shyly says Yes.

Is a coolant change not recommended every 2 years?

Thats funny right there because i do all the things that are recommended.
I flush my brake every 2 yrs 24k, change my air and pollen filters yearly. And i love the evaporator service in humid houston thats a expanding foam that sprays into the hvac and cleans out the crap and smells. Coolant exchange every 3(if the previous owner had done that when i recommended maybe she would not have had a clogged heater core. I balance(road force) my tires 2 xs a year and align at least once. My god i drive 20k a year on houston roads and its never in alignment when i check it again. And the multipoin inspection. Yes i do them all the time to a point. Free to you not to me, 10min a car and that can easily be a hour of non comphensated time everyday. But hey the dealers dont pay us to do them so why not have the techs do them for free. i always did before anyway because i think most intelligent people would agree that if you go in for a oil change you would want to know about say brakes, tires, suspension, coolant leaks etc. If you just want a oil change go to walmart or jiffy lube |
I am perfectly capable of doing those "extras"` without paying the dealer tax of $600. I'm getting the "free" oil change because it is paid for by Jaguar already and it keeps the warranty book stamped....

I was under the impression that my car was maintenance included 5 years! Including filters etc? Brake flush? Coolant flush? |

As for the "free" matter, of course we pay for it at some point, but it's a nice touch in my opinion as opposed to say the $540.00+ slap in the face for the first year service on my 2015 Maserati Ghibli. I seem to recall that my 2013XF came with the first year service, which was the only service I ever had performed. Ha, ha, so for the life of my XF I only had to have it serviced once. |

I guess it’s a dealer vs Jaguar recommendation. Coolant replacement seems to be a five year recommendation so not sure why they pushed it at three years except you know, $$$$$.
Brake fluid replacement at three three years was covered by the maintenance schedule so no cost to me at point of service (trying to avoid controversial use of term free). As I said, one reason I put up with the dealer games is keeping the warranty card stamped should I decide to part ways with my current ride. I’m sure most of us would favor a vehicle with a solid record. |
Maserati service costs are ridiculous, even with a discount basic service is $240. Front pads on our previous was $500. You can't charge that on $70k -$90k car and expect the word not to get out. My '14 Jag didn't include service but the dealer always has some type of coupon that keeps it at around $150, same for brake flush.

The reason I can afford better cars is always trying to pay a reasonable price for things, not neccessarily the cheapest. The original price for the brake pads was $650! I could have gone to an indepedant for $400 but value my realtionship with the Maser dealer. My point is Maser dealers charge like people are still buying an exotic where they are competing witth BMW 5 and Merc E. My $94k Jag is less to service than our "17 Ghibli! By the way the '14 Ghibli needed pads at 12k miles! My Ftype has 19k and just coming up to pads! My wife loves her Maser so that is all that has to be said!
