Use a car cover? Avoid this one, SealSkin.
 

When I bought my Jaguar in Sept. 2021 the Miata my wife has was sent to a parking pad outside so the F-Type could stay inside. We bought a car cover from SealSkin to help avoid bird poop and stuff from trees. Sounded great with being waterproof, 10 year warranty, soft interior and good price. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!

I took the cover off the other day after being under the cover for about a month. I was quite surprised to find discoloration in my paint on a few places under the cover. The discolored areas directly correspond to wet areas on the underside of the car cover. The outside was bone dry. I took the car to a place to see if the discolored areas could have paint correction to fix the appearance. No chance. The only way to restore the appearance is a respray the entire hood.

The company is ignoring me even though I have tried to contact them for a solution. Not surprisingly there are reviews saying how horrid they are as a company and how inferior their products are. Photos of the damage attached so, see for yourself. BTW, the entire car was detailed and given 2 applications of Gyeon Can Coat before the cover was put on the car back in October 2021.

thats terrible.
do you have a theory for the damage. Surely cant be just water damage from pooling. Maybe chemical leaching from the flock liner or something

pray an estimate tomorrow for a respray : a theory. That is why I took it to a professional so I could get a person who may have had experience dealing with this type of problem. They did try to polish it with compound and a random buffer. No improvement.

I've seen that issue before, the milkyness seems to be under the coating. I reckon it will be something to do with the coat that was put on

It is best never to put a waterproof cover on a car. Those that don't "breathe" will trap moisture against the surface over a prolonged period will discolor paint. I don't know the mechanism that causes that. A car can sit uncovered during the Winter where it will be wet with rain continually without that happening. I hope the company makes a settlement for you. I only use cheap single layer covers, primarily to protect from ultraviolet light and bird poop.

Yeah I have a covercraft cover for the mustang which is meant to be the ducks nuts. It feels a bit like soft egg carton and is quite thick feeling but is super light, it is very porous as well, maybe like hessian weave? I am curious as to what it is made of. Mine's mainly for sun but I wanted it thick enough for hail. It does a great job with both, and I keep it in a plastic garbage bin when it isnt in use. It lets a little water through, but it is a bit water repellent and doesnt soak up water.

Are you saying under the clear coat so a manufacturer issue or under a layer of aftermarket wax so a user issue??

i'm no expert, but I had a similar issue after I tried using cquartz on a miTo. It was an absolute disaster and no amount of trying to correct it (even trying to strip the glaze off) helped, I spent hours and hours on it, trying buffers and eventually cutting it back (got to bare metal in a patch, eeek!). I would guess that possibly something happened in that detailing and coating process, or maybe the water has permeated the coating, but whatever, the problem area is now locked in under the glaze. Probably someone who knows more about paint would help more, sorry.

i would say that having had a few Mazda's (daughter 2 still has one), paint is generally their weak point and they seem to be unfamiliar with the concept of clearcoat, so my guess would be a combination of contributors. But that's essentially why these days I only use a wax that I know can come off with detergent.

Not much of a chance of the company doing ANYTHING. They will not even reply to my contact messages.

WOW, They replied! Basically they said the damage is all my fault. What a surprise. Here is the message they sent to me.
