Default V8 to be replaced by "high-performance versions of the new Ingenium straight six"

I guess we all knew this was coming but, per Autocar, if you want your F-Type with an eight cylinder, do it soon: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/i...e-renewed-2024

Hmmm, no mention of the F-Type at all and the article is 95% about various SUVs.
Smells to me that the writing is on the wall for sports cars and sedans at JLR.

A turbocharged straight six is going to be lighter than the V8 and less complex than the V6, and probably lighter too. A turbo I6 with 6MT and RWD? Talk to me ...

The article barely mentions Jaguar which I guess is to be expected. LR really is the dominant side of the house. Which is fine with me as long as it keeps the doors open. But I have Zero interest in an SUV. I expect Jaguar will sell its Pace cars succcessfully, a few sedans here and there, and the odd sports car. I have my F which will keep me happy for quite a while.

The Q1 loss is troubling. That should not be happening.

i am looking forward to seeing a base wagon, the S is too expensive. I am hoping that if JLR is not spending on new Jag models they will have some money to get the tech side up to speed.

What a tragedy.
I know there are a lot of people who swear by the turbo but as far as I am concerned, the naturally-aspirated engine is what the F-Type is all about. I am still waiting for delivery of my F-Type, but I am glad it will get here before the future takes over.

No F-Type is naturally aspirated. Except for the turbo charged 4 cylinder, they are all supercharged.

Sorry, unhingd, supercharged was what I meant (as opposed to turbo). I currently drive a 2007 Audi S6 with a 5.2l naturally-aspirated V10 engine (a derivation of the engines found in the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Gallardo) and while it is a heavy, family car, flooring the pedal gives me immediate pleasure. I have tried a lot of turbo cars (various Porsches, the BMW M4, the new Audi RS5 etc.) and none gave me the same immediate, linear reaction as the F Type. Can’t wait for delivery time!

I don’t think they will make a second generation of the F Type, so as far as F Type is concerned it doesn’t matter

My wife's Mercedes sedan is a Bi-Turbo V6.
OK, but nowhere near the power, torque, & fun to drive factor of the V8 of my current F type & previous Corvettes.

So if F type won't offer V8's in 2021 - 2022 , guess I'll go back to Vettes...

From what I know, the new platform will be used for the new F-Type and a 2+2 , hybrid I6, with chargers when required.. .. I don't know if [exept for the sound],
anybody would think of a V8 anymore if the I6 gets the UniAir hydraulic-electric valve drive and a 1200-5000rpm torque of 1000nm plus the electric motor...

Rough estimate : 0-60mph under 2 secs...

I for one will miss the drama of the V8. I will hold on to my 2015 V8 S. Driving my V8 RWD convertible is an occasion.

A RRS V8 and an F-Type V8... ... , you know how to enjoy life.. .. would cost here in the range of € 400.000 .. mostly taxes ..

For that I hate the welfare state.. .. but I like it for having few homeless on this side of the pond..

+1. Driving an electric or hybrid is about as exciting as driving around on a sewing machine even if it does 0-6o in 2s. No drama! The Tesla S and Roadster are not nearly as exciting as the F-Type.

The V8 is nothing compared to steam. The flame the pressure the plume the scent the excitement.

All that counts is performance everything else is nostalgia like the MT.

My recollection from times gone past is that an I6 in inherently a smooth running engine. With the rest of the world including Jag headed to 4s, an I6 is good news.

Yep...nothing left for the senses. It’s all becoming quite clinical. Might as well just buy an electric Porsche.
