Default Video, F Type fuel pump failure

According to the mechanic, the car's 3 fuel pumps are considered to be a high failure rate part for the F Type sports car. The car only has 7,000 mi on the clock. That being said, does the fuel pump fail due to age instead of mileage?

That 7000 mileage was just the 'A' trip, so the actual mileage is going to be a lot higher judging by the wear and tear the car is showing

Great video, thanks for sharing. I was impressed by how clean the underbody looked considering the age so it's likely to be a summer car. The true mileage is a mystery and it's the first I hear that the HPFP are a common failure. I think he was exaggerating a lot.

If fuel pump failures were common, we would have known about it a long time ago. This particular video mechanic has a penchant for blanket statements.

I would search the forum for problems before listening to some random video making a blanket statement of non-fact.

He does like to think he's the only competent mechanic out there. I got tired of his pronouncements and stopped following him.

The only issue I've heard of with fuel pumps is mine had a connector that wasn't fully seated so intermittently threw a code. Plugged in correctly and it's been fine the past 6 years.

I don't think there has been a single failure reported since I've been on the forum ,2014!

It occurs to me that the Car Wizard's theory that they're a common failure item is that his supplier has a lot in stock. An alternative theory would say they have a lot in stock because no-one's had to buy them!

My thoughts precisely. That stock might be several years old.

no I've been told its a major failure point....I don't know... that is what I have been told and there was a YouTube video class for mechanics over the fuel system and that guy mentions it as well as a major failure point. "you'll be replacing them in pairs" and referred to them getting noisy. I wonder if the "tick" we get in these engines isn't from those HPFP's

Yes, many reports that the HPFPs are a bit noisy and "ticky".
But hard to tell if the ticking is excessive or a sign of impending failure among all the other ticks and rattles (fuel injectors, SC belt tensioner, SC coupler, timing chains, valves etc etc.).

So so so true... Im replacing my TVS1900 supercharger with a 100% completely new one hopefully soon - its inside my house. I also bought new Bosch HPFP's (non-jag branded but same pump) as well as new HPFP lines and cam Followers. Hoping that combo fixes my god awful engine tick. It quiets as the car warms up. but never goes away. Its actually BETTER on a cold start so I don't think its timing chain - its worse on a warm restart. TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK. Ive heard the same tick on YouTube videos with people that also have these V8 and V6 engines and there is never a conclusive before and after video with resolution statement on exactly what IT is. Frustrating. If not... Timing Chains next :O

Dumb question but do your pumps have the heavy rubber covers on them? Suppose to be for noise control and I do agree with the ticking sounds. Mine is loudest upon cold start and hardly noticeable at all with a warm engine. I had to get use to it as these DI engines are just plain noisier than the older port injected engines.
