Default Why does door handle stay out?

Have my F-type for a week now and not one complaint except when the car is unlocked the door handle stays out.

Whats the purpose of this, to me it just invites someone to open your door. I know you should lock your car but if you are somewhere where there is no need, it seems weird that this is a feature.

Thoughts?

Because the car is unlocked. That's its purpose.

If you don't want to invite people to open it up, lock your car.

Now quit worrying and go drive!!

Because pushing the handle back in (from outside the car) locks the car, whereas pushing the button brings the handle back out/unlocks (assuming you have keyless entry).

Ergo handle out = unlocked. Handle in = locked.

A very curious post/question, I must say!

Also, you may not have discovered this yet - if you unlock the car, but don't open one of the doors, it will automatically relock itself after something like a minute.

Sorry for any confusion, but the origin of the question had more to do with aesthetics then functionality, I think when the car is unlocked it looks silly with the handles sticking out. I do have keyless entry and I know that with key in hand pressing the door handle locks the car.

I just sometimes don't want to lock it for whatever reason and thought it was a weird design.

Just saying!!

Never mind the handles, have you paid your entrance fee yet (by posting a pic of your car in the Pics sticky)

But obviously only once you've locked it so the handles retract!

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ian Callum designed those handles to emulate a persons hand, as in greeting someone with a handshake. A nice touch if you ask me. Form follows function.

Coupled with the mirrors folding in, they are waving goodbye when you lock it.

Off on a slight tangent, solving the aesthetic of the Door Handles being out is way to easy to fix if it bothers one that much, either push on the Handle or push the Lock button on the Key Fob and your concern goes away.

What I have never been able to figure out however is how to keep the Side View Mirrors out and the Door Handle in AT THE SAME TIME!
If you want to photograph your car, you have to live with the Handles out or the mirrors folded in. One or the other... No way that I am aware of to flush the Door Handles without also retracting the Mirrors.

Third World problem I must say...

That particular issue has been brought up before. Quite a few people wish that was setting we could change to keep the mirrors out.

This is my number one most hated feature on the car. I will request they change or unplug the pins at my first service.

Engine running + locked doors = mirrors out and handles in, no?

In my photo above, the engine is not running. My mirrors are always out when locked.

The secret is to buy a base car w/ no options.

If you turn the vehicle on, roll a window down, and lock the doors once exiting the vehicle; you can then take the key out of the vehicle, place it on the cowl and roll the window up from outside the car using the auto roll up feature. This very complicated method, you can then properly take photos of your car with the mirrors out and the door locked.

You can also photograph the passenger side with only the driver's side unlocked (handle out).

You can have that done at the dealer (mirrors stay out). It's just a software setting. It is even adressed in the owners manual.
