I like what I have - A RWD R! Guilty for not having enough time to enjoy it. Winter came with less sunny days, after a super super busy summer and autumn with almost no time to drive my F Type. Only 1850 km on the dashboard, in its first 5 months... my garage is happier than I am in fact...

 

Also, I loveeeee how people constantly mention RWD requiring more driver skill as a reason it is better. How pathetic that you have to buy a car based around how much skill it takes to drive so you can stroke your own ego.

 

No harm. Since you have a RWD it really only matters that they are the same cross car. AWD would be a different story.

 

All of my TT's were Quattro and they were fun. My SLK55 was RWD and great in a straight line a little challenging turning. My F Type S is of course RWD and fun to slide before the computer saves you. Both of our Maserati Ghibli"s have been RWD, and I prefer them if for weight if nothing else. I think active suspension is what is important. SLK didn't offer it and the Maserati has it.

 

Not many can say they've OWNED both which is different than test driving both. In my humble opinion AWD is faster.

Safe vs Fun.

 

OK, no need to re-litigate this all every time its brought up in a post. It is a legendary question to which there is no one right answer. But calling the RWD vs. AWD a choice between "tail happy vs. thrown back in your seat" or "hell yes AWD is better" is at best a gross oversimplification, at worst is flat out wrong.

Video is good, and probably provides the best answer to the OP's original question (Is the RWD more fun?).

Only thing I will add is that from my experience, switching to the michelin tires from the pirelli's really improves traction to the point that (at least on dry roads) spinning rear tires is only going to happen if you are trying to make it happen.

We get it. Your model/year is the best and no new model/version, regardless of the updates/technological advancements, will ever come close to yours cause JAG screwed up moving forward with the AWD and we should all be envious of yours and bummed with the newer version at the same time.

My binary biased throttle input limited brain capacity and inexperienced driving skill set are my weakness. Thank God to Jag for the AWD with that extra 1.5 inch rise that compensates for it - wish I could see the damn road though and I wish it looked as awesome as yours.

If Jag hadn’t of come out with the AWD I would have had to purchase a Prius.

 

Why the hate?

Usually the point of forums like this is to exchange information and share our passion for vehicles. My earlier post was in response to your comment which implied that the S models or R models with RWD are vastly inferior to the AWD V8 models, and that their owners are not even qualified to address the topic. I was hoping to help you understand there are legitimate reasons for someone to prefer a model of the F-Type besides what you purchased.

 

Ended up Purchasing a New 2017 "R" Italian Racing Red and absolutely Love it. And the Dealer agreed to a great offer. $110K sticker $78K SOLD! Last 2017 just sitting on the Showroom Floor.

 

Oh, and because the Car was technically put in service in April of 2017, and used as a Demo (243 miles) they extended the 5 yr/$60,000 mile Warranty to 6 yr (from April 2017) 100,000 mile Warranty.

 

Congrats, great looking car. That is a fantastic price for effectively a new vehicle. I always thought the used R represented the best value in performance/looks, but your deal takes it to the next level. Enjoy.

Wow. What a tender issue. With other cars one can be more analytical. Normally since I don’t need AWD for climate reason I go with RWD. Lighter, better mileage, fewer parts etc. But with the F you are dealing with emotions not analysis. It’s what experience you enjoy more. Drive both a little harder than usual and go with your smile.

 

I think people really over state how tail happy and spooky a RWD R is. Other than cold weather or snow, if you're hitting the electronic nannies on the street you're driving too fast. The engine is so linear it's very easy to modulate. The P Zeros aren't my favorite and I'll switch to MIch's but full tread P Zeros are great in the rain too.

I've got lot's of track time and I wouldn't consider this a scary car at the limits compared to a Viper, GT3 a Z06 with Run Flats and a few others.

I don't mean this in a defensive way at all. both platforms are good. It's just a you pick 'em scenario.

Thanks for all the comments on this. After doing extensive research for Clean Low Mileage 2015 "R"s. And considering the prices for them, I just could not resist buying New with the price I got. I never got an opportunity to drive the RWD. But I am sure the RWD is fun as hell! Thanks Again.

 

I also think people who own RWD's don't realize how much the AWD lets you get sideways, and maybe they wouldn't down it so much if they experience that.
