Default Please recommend a good scanner

Hi. Newbie here.

Day 2 of ownership.

Got a 99 XJ8 which was owned by a neighbor who already moved out of state and is not very reliable about the car history. More of not wanting to reply to questions.

I think it was not serviced regularly.

Today I just saw the “check engine” light come on.

Car does not accelerate the way a 4.0L V8 engine would.

Some vibrations felt on the steering wheel when driving in the highway.

Can someone recommend a good scanner that will tell me the problems and also where can I get good affordable OEM parts?

Thanks.

For an extensive discussion on scanners, see this dedicated thread in General Tech Help forum:

You don't need anything too expensive to read the majority of codes that illuminate the CEL. When you get the code(s) and want to ask further questions, alway post the actual codes and not descriptions for the best advice on possible causes.

In addition to paying for the privilege of advertising which keeps the forums free to use for members, our forum Sponsors and Vendors offer good discounts on OEM and quality aftermarket Jaguar spares.
