Purchase Direction

Hello to all on the site!

I am new to this site having spent some 7 years on the Mercedes site. I hope that you Jag folks are as helpful as the MB guys as they have helped me thru a great deal of frustration and have guided me to happiness with my 1988 560SL. I'm here tonight with a bigger problem. It has to do with my wife and all should know what that means.

Back in 2001, She purchased a 2000" S" type and she really fell in love with it. Based on allI have read, I have held my breath while spending a fortune on coils. I felt that I would experience a transmission problem due to the nightmares that I have read on many sites. Least of all, I expected dealer problems and weird electrical problems. But mostly, I replaced coils! Every time I drove it 200 miles I had to replace at least one.

About 10 days ago, my wife totaled the "S" Type. So I guess my cited concerns have been eliminated. The real problem is that she is talking about another Jaguar! I don't think I can talk her out of it. I'm sure you know how that goes!

Prior to buying the 2000 I read as much as I could and all seemed well. After about 6 months of ownership all of the scary stories from 2000 owners started to appear on the forums.

I can't afford a new Jag but something between a 2001 and 2003 might fit my budget. Can any or all of you make a recommendation on these cars. What model, year etc. is less apt to cause me great mechanical pain. Even if she gets another one, I at least need to have something to say to guide or dissuade her!

Thanks for your help and all opinions graciously accepted. Because I'm dealing with the wife you all will know how important this Post is.

RE: Purchase Direction

hey tom id say def go for an 03+ if she wants another s type, very much updated mech. and the dash is redone and still used even in 08 s types....is she set on another s type or just a jaguar, i dont think she would want to step down to an X type esp after having a V8, the XJs are quite nice as well! do you mind disclosing exactly what your budget it as I could be more specific for you?
