Shift without pressing the brake???

All of a sudden my car will shift from park without pressing down the brake pedal. I noticed it after I got it back from the mechanics so I think they may have f'd something up. They charged me for 20 hours of labor to replace a 3 inch coolant hose under the supercharger. Don't go to Munski's if you live in Oswego, NY. Anyway, anyone know how to fix my shifting problem?

XKR? XJR/8? XJR/6?

On the XJR/6 all the brake-shift interlock stuff is in the console and works off the brake light switch. Not sure about the others but I suspect the same.

Do you hear a click when you step on the brake?

Hi, I don't know about your gear shift problem, but from your profile I believe you have an S Type R.

Although you might find that this thread will help explain about the work involved to change that coolant hose under the Supercharger.

There is also a detailed pdf in the S Type forum FAQ under Supercharge removal which will give an insight into what is involved.

Hope that others will come in, about your gear shift problem.

isnt it funny how someone working under the hood gets blamed for something going on inside the car?
Thats about like blaming the plumber for your disposal going out when he fixes your toilet. Yes you got ripped on the hose under the supercharger if you have a STR.
I suspect
1) your shift interlock hasnt worked in awhile, and just now noticed.
2) the pin interlock on the shifter is plastic and can wearout with time
3) do you have little kids that you leave in the car with the engine running that might like to PLAY with the shifter? If not dont worry about it, we went decades without shift interlocks on cars. Otherwise youll need a new shifter to fix the issue

Yes, there is a click when I press on the brake. It has always been there even when the shifter worked properly.
