What is This Part? And Where do These Wires Go? (Pics)
 

I replaced the started button on my 1964 Daimler. When I opened the access port/door, I found this cylinder and these two wires ( one black, one white disconnected ).

What is this cylinder?
Where do these wires connect to?
Should I leave them disconnected?
( Cap with wire nuts? )

Also someone told me this model is POSITIVE ground.
Yet when I look at the way the battery is placed, the NEGATIVE cable is connected to the engine compartment/body, and the red positive goes out to the starter.

So is this type of Daimler positive or negative ground?

First thing, WELCOME aboard.

Not sure where you are, but being a Daimler, not the US of A.

That looks like it is snapped behind the dash panel fold down centre???

Looks like a flasher (indicator) can to me. Certainly NOT an add on, as that is factory wiring in my opinion.

Most of the Daimler 250 V8's had an alternator, and thus were Neg earth.

Generator version could be either.

HOWEVER since your is wired with the Neg to ground, it is deemed a -ve earth car.

The silver cylinder with the green wires going to it is the flasher unit, it powers the indicators.


The Black wires are an earth/ ground, what ever you call it where you live.


The what appears to be a White wire is ignition circuit, if it has a coloured trace woven into it, it narrows down exactly what part of the ignition circuit.


Google Lucas wire colours, it will give you a complete guide to what colour wire with what colour trace does what.

I missed that part of the question.

By what you are saying, and the snaps, that car is NEG graound.
