All dealerships rip off people, but Jaguar is probably a champion in that. Jaguar buyers are mostly rich people, who don't care much about reliability, otherwise they would buy Lexus/Infinity/Acura.
Recently I called Jag dealer about programming instrument cluster and got price about $500, it is less than 1 hour work. Ford charged me 1 hour for exactly same job.(My Jag cluster says "Ford" on it. I am pretty sure everything is identical for 2003.)

I am happy with my Jag because I bought it "with bad transmission", which turned out to be a broken wire between transmission and ECM. I guess, dealer would charge $2000 to repair "transmission".
On top of than recently some girl backed up her POS new Kia into my gorgeous 03 Jag , damaging 2 doors, I got repair money about twice more than I paid for my Jag.

Now I am trying to diagnose possibly bad instrument cluster. It will cost me lots of money to reprogram it. To compare:
Any instrument cluster of Mercedes, Jeep and Asian cars are "plug and play" of the same year.
I suggest to stay away from Jaguars, unless you don't care about money or a car mechanic.
P.S.Jag mechanics don't rip off people, there are service managers for that. So mechanics are good guys.

 

A pain? I'm starting to wonder. I picked up my car today after getting one thing repaired, and will need to take it back in again tomorrow to get something else done that just cropped up. So far the only time I've had it at home for more than a week was due to a delay in getting around to getting it fixed....

What keeps me going, apart from sheer bloody-mindedness and the fact that I still want to get a chance to properly drive it long-distance, is that people keep saying that once you get the PO's neglect sorted, they're really rather reliable. I just wonder how far the PO's neglect extends....
