Default Test Drive Cycle Is Starting

I finally have an appointment to test drive the car on the 17th and, if you are in the California San Francisco bay area there is an iPace event in a few weeks: Invitation to Experience the New Jaguar I-PACE

They should be rolling this program nation wide so check back on the site, other locations should open up (and tell your local dealer you would like to go to one of these).

Default Test Drive

OK the test drive went great. Car is fast, didn't get to take it off road or on a track but acceleration onto the Freeway was brisk, in line with my GLA45 AMG which is really quick. Dead quiet inside. Funny story, asked to hear the fake engine sounds, they couldn't figure out how to turn them on so that may need some work. Back seat room was plenty, front seat was nice and roomy, frunk (front trunk) wouldn't even hold wife's purse without work, didn't try the stereo, controls were intuitive, as others have notice infotainment screen was slow. Overall loved the car and can hardly wait to get mine. Here are some pictures:

Back door speaker

Back door vent

Amazing sun roof (this was spectacular in person)

Plan on using your side mirrors, rear window is tiny.

Back passenger map lights

Plenty of knee room in back.

Dash layout was really nice.

Center console controls (the temp dials light up).

Front of car we drove.

Side

Trunk was roomy particulalry with the seats down (which is basically the way our cars typically stays).

Tiny Frunk

Rear temp controls

Front quarter

With seats folded down. Not quite flat but usable.

Wife was upset I didn't get these wheels instead, they look spectacular in person. 22"

Better shot of the Fronk

Default Wheel Picture

For some reason the wheel picture didn't upload, here it is again: (These are the wheels my wife wanted me to get, got the black ones instead):

These are spectacular in person.

The red looks awesome on the I Pace. And that sunroof is stunning. It sounds awesome overall and I'll be on the lookout for test drives in my area. Would love to try it out on the freeways here. Thanks for sharing!

Guys, get in touch with your local dealer and let them know you are interested in a demo drive. There are other prototypes around. I brought one in for the 2018 Wild Blueberry Blast last month and have another coming in for a golf tournament so you may find out you have a chance to check it out locally.

-Mike

Prototype I-Pace here for the 2018 Wild Blueberry Blast.

Haven't signed up for the event, but my local dealer, Cole European, had a pair for the week. There was a prototype on the floor and a pre-production unit available to drive, so drive it I did.

First off, it's a nice looking car. My first two tests are usually:

1) If I set the seat where I want it, does the B-pillar block too much of my side view? I'm 6' tall, so this is a disqualifying test for many cars with more than one door per side. It was a little further back than some cars, so was acceptable. Better than the Discovery, in fact.
2) If I were in the front seat, could I sit behind me without suffering? Another passing grade, although I wouldn't want to drive cross-country back there.

The center console crowded my right knee a little, but once I was driving I didn't notice.

Acceleration was good, but I didn't feel the need to test the 0-60 time. I was more concerned with the overall driving experience. I'll say it was certainly up to any of my daily needs without breaking a sweat.

Traffic was a bit too heavy to really get the full experience, but I took it on most of the same loop I used to test the F-Types. There are some left-right transitions that made the extra weight of the V8 apparent, so seemed a reasonable test. I didn't want to abuse the salesman, so held back a little, but it felt neutral in transition, even under moderately heavy acceleration. Cornering was nice and flat, with only the slightest understeer while making a passing maneuver. The section has a 90 right leading to slightly banked left, tightening up to a right and dropping to one lane. The 90 right was completely wasted by a minivan, so for the left I dove in and gassed it (electronned it?) before the tightening right. There was no drama and it just did as I asked it.

Overall, I was impressed and would definitely consider it were I going electric.

The price point? I don't really know., I haven't done comparison shopping with other electrics because my dinosaur-burner is still pretty young.
