A bit of a grey area I guess, but I don't see why not?
After all, it may be diesel but also high performance, so go for it IMO
For eg - I posted once about a BMW 335 Twin turbo diesel I drove some time ago ( also saw one of my co workers today who has a white one ) what a machine!!!!
On a par with a BMW M3 in almost every area....a second slower to 62mph but 42mpg can be achieved against 24mpg plus they both do 155mph.
Jeremy Clarkson took the 5 series versions around the track in a race and it was neck n neck all the way!

let me put this info in .
2002 Ford Mustang, with a GM Duramax diesel engine, went 205 MPH at the Texas Mile, last month.
owner drove 1000miles to and from, averaging 36mpg,US gal.
texas mile is a one mile standing mile, for top speed, held twice a year.
thinking about it,
Question; how many roadgoing cars can go over 200mph, and get excellant mpg also.
