Quick question on V12 fuel injection
When did they switch over the S-types from carbs to fuel injection? I'm apparently either a glutton for punishment, a fool, or both because I've decided to sell my newly acquired XJ6 and start searching for an XJS. I'm hooked...God help me!

S-types never had carbs.....Do you mean the xjs? If so, you are in the wrong spot mon ami! :)

Okay, my bad.
I'm new to the Jaguar world and I'm still not familiar with all the models and classifications. I wrongly assumed an XJS was an S model. On the positive side, I ain't dead yet, so there is still plenty to learn! I've found an 83 XJS convertible with only 29,000 miles on it. Needs paint and probably electrical work. I won't know until I've picked it up, hopefully on Tuesday. I thought I'd read somewhere the earlier XJS V12 was carb'ed, so I was wondering when they switched to fuel injection, but you say they've always been fuel injected? |

A lot of electrical problems on the older Jags really aren't that tough to solve if you like to tinker and have some patience. Poor grounds and dirty/loose connectors/contacts are the usual culprits. They started building the XJS in 1975 and they were fuel injected. That's the same year the the V12 sedans were upgraded from carbs to fuel injection as well Cheers DD |

newguy here, I have a 1976 XJ12 and am going to build this car up to get decent gasmileage. Some of the things I hope to do is use 2 taurus ignition coil packs, a megasquirt ECU, a 700r4 transmission, and maybe some kent cams, (where do I get valve springs and retainers btw?), polished ports and intake manifold, a homemade 2.5" exhaust, and K&N air filters. Can anyone tell me the likelyhood of what kind of projected mpg would be (assuming I drive like a grandma.) I'm just trying to get 20mpg at best and want to rock my V12 all day long.

Locke, I think you'd get a better response to your questions if you started a new thread. Sounds like you've got big ambitions though!
