Default XJ8 Check Engine

I'm not really sure which of these problems are related or what their causes are.
Symptoms:
- check engine light comes on for a day once a week
- 'restricted performance' message comes on right when the check engine light comes on. It stays on only for about 20 seconds though.
- 'engine coolant low' message randomly comes and goes while the check engine light is on for that one day. This message only stays on for 20 seconds.
- if the car sits for more than a couple hours, she smokes a little bit when I start her up. Not too much smoke (lingers for about 10 seconds). The smoke is blueish though which made me lean towards that she was burning oil. Sure enough when I checked the dip stick, she was about a half of quart low. I wasn't sure if this had to do with the valve seals or not. Any input would help.

I bought the car in april but didn't get my license until august. Even though I took it for a 5 minute drive once a week, it was still basically sitting most of the time. This is why I thought after I got my license and starting consistently driving it, these problems would go away. These problems didn't go away though. They come back on an average once a week, with the exception of the smoking which is basically every day if she sits for a couple hours.

Looking forward to your replies.
