advance auto hi-jacking
Ive been trying to search a few things today. Ive been using the "search this forum" button upper right of listings. Each time I enter a search I get sent to an Advance Auto perks page that requires me to sign up for their system but gives no hint how to bypass or even if i do sign up, whether i will then be sent on to my search. Ive got nothing against Advance (yet) but really? Is this needed?

Jerry,
The forum is not to blame for this one. These 'Pop Ups' or redirects will be from your web browser delivering relevant advertising resulting from your browsing history.
Clearing browser history will reduce the instances but installing a Pop Up Blocker is the most effective. I use Firefox as my web browser of choice with Ad Blocker Plus installed as an extension and never see any Pop Ups. Similar solution are available for other popular web browsers.

I use Google Chrome with Adblock Plus, never a problem since installing it. I used the link in the thread below.

I've been having the same problem, but only for the past week or so.
Here's my layman's description of the problem. Just my attempt to describe it as best I can.
(Obviously, I don't speak geek!)
(edit) ... oops, forgot to mention I'm using Firefox.
The Advance Auto popup is on the right side of the screen.
When you attempt to search the forum, or to close a forum image you have opened ... the "X" you have to click overlays the popup. It is still vaguely visible underneath the image/selection box.
When you click the X, it goes "through" the forum screen and activates the popup beneath it.
Again, this has only been for the last week or so, and only with the Advance Auto ad.
I (quite obviously!) don't know much about what's involved, but it seems to me that the issue would be with the forum's site rather than the popup underneath?
Or maybe not.
Just sayin'.

I've been getting the same thing that retromotors sees but only when the pictures are in the first few posts of a thread and the picture extends across the right side of the page.
I used to be able to not even see the ads by changing the style of the forum - but the only option via the Quick Style link at the bottom of the page is Jaguar37 and in the User CP, I have Default selected.

With tongue set firmly in cheek: Oh sure! Blame my browser! as if it ever did anything to you.
It hasn't happened again, so I'm going to continue as if nothing had happened.. Being a low-tech person, I tend to spend a lot more time trying to search things on the web and fix my computer problems than I need to. Thanks for the replies.
