Deleting posts
 

I wouldn't want to delete anything that may be useful to anyone but is there a way to delete posts that we've made if we feel in hindsight that they don't really add anything to forum's reference pool?

I am afraid you can't . Only way to do that is you need to pm admin super mods , mods or use triangle yellow icon to report and request deletion .

However, user edits are open on JF for much longer than most forums.

Therefore it is possible to just go back to your particular post and hit the [edit] button.

Then just change the text to something like "deleted" or "never mind".

The simple answer is to ask any of the Mod Team.

I get PM's from time to time asking for posts to be edited where the OP has said something they later realise isn't correct or wasn't as clearly explained as they intended.

Provided any edit doesn't affect subsequent posts referring to it or quoting it, this is usually OK but each request has to be considered.

As for a post not adding to the forum's reference pool, this will happen all the time. Even posts just saying 'never happened to me', 'same thing happened to mine' or just wishing good luck are all part of general interaction on a friendly forum. If we didn't have that, the forum would be like reading a workshop manual - highly informative but hard going!

No worries then, it was just a thought as sometimes I'll ask something and then realise that someone has already been kind enough to write a comprehensive post on the subject.
