Description:

A lovely British Racing Green Vanden Plas with buscuit interior. The sad bit is that my father in law drove it up the freeway and it overheated - he didn't see those red lights... now it is using coolant, my local mechanic says a head gasket. It drives around the block but will over heat when you get on the highway.
I'm selling it as a great parts car that comes with an extra Jaguar, or you can fix her.

The rims are the Jaguar optional BBS rims in oyster off of an R. I really warmed up to them. It also comes with the stock set of Jaguar alloys with worn out snow tires. Also, as you can see, a trunk full of parts. Brake pads and front rotors, various good used parts and a new in box throttle body (common part to replace, $250 right there), filters, Jaguar winter mats etc.

This car was a Jaguar CPO car that I bought here from a very caring owner. He had full service records and I had a drive to keep the car in great mechanical shape. The body looks great too. I have an entire inch plus file on all the parts and repairs.

The wilton wool mats still look great (PO had them replaced, wear on driver side only). The picnic tables look great, the upgraded leather is great, some minor color wear on the driver bolster. Wood looks great - a few cracks in the clear coat here and there.
Off the top of my head, it has all new Arnott air shocks/springs along with a rebuilt air pump. Lower a arms, all sorts of bushings in the suspension. Tranny was flushed (PO had the dealer put in a new torque converter) New throttle body, plugs, filters etc. and lots of other new stuff I can look into the file about.

Issues I can think of? (besides the engine overheating? The front right turn signal was out, the headliner is doing the normal dropping -- parts kept up with clear pins, and the brakes feel a bit mushy after having one of the front caliper lines replaced.

PO painted all the brake calipers in silver, sharp. Well, it's been a great run and I've really enjoyed the people and help on jaguarforums. I'll probably be back in the future.

No, I don't want to part it out, I just want her out of my driveway as I got a very friendly offer on an Infiniti AWD that I'm now driving. Located in Columbus, Ohio. Ross

Did the mechanic give you a rough estimate on repairing the head gasket?

He did not, he owns the shop and I described the symptoms and he immediately said "head gasket." I never went further as I had a sweetheart deal on a 4wd Infiniti and I was going to sell the Jag. Bit of a loss for me, but such is life sometimes.

...and no, I have not and will not tell my father in law. He's a good man...just not a car guy.

As a few people have asked, yes, you can ship it - surprisingly cheap. I've used www.uship.com before. They have shippers who will bid on what you want. If they've got an empty truck going that way, I had a car for $300 from WI - if you're flexible on delivery dates.

Hey Ross

Oh no!

That really sucks. It was a great car.

Ross and I both took very good care of that car. It would be a good one to save.

If I had an empty garage spot I would buy it back.

Just the 5 BBS Monaco wheels are worth the asking price. They are fairly rare.

Thank you for the kind words Mr. Rothwell, he was indeed a fantastic Jaguar owner and just the person to buy one from.

jrb53, I'll check into that. I thought all the engines were both CA and federal emissions? Is there a CA emissions sticker under the hood or somewhere else?

looks like she may be sold - meaning I priced it way too low

*was pointed out to me that I put the wrong VIN in, I think that one is from an XJR that I did look at (auto populated on my computer)

correct VIN is: SAJWA82CX5SG44389

THANK YOU ROSS!! She was dropped off this morning and I am just getting home to see her. I was up in the air about parting out or repairing, but after seeing her, She will growl again. For the money I saved, replacing the engine, if needed, is not out of the question. THANK YOU ROSS, she has a good home....

Great Joe, that makes me happy. My 7 yr old son was, as we call it, 'sad faced' to see her go, almost cried- but I read him your email and he jumped up and said THAT'S GREAT NEWS!

I am very glad to see that the car will live on. It has a great heritage so far.

Now I will have to start watching the X350 threads again to see how it turns out.

Joe,

Here is a good 05 XJL parts car that says they have engine with 78K. Should be a drop in for the VDP.

I would be willing to go take a look/listen if it helps. Its about an hour away from me.

I will leave it up to you to contact them and make sure you really want to buy it.

I don't mind investing the time if/when you have made sure it is the solution you want.

Hey Rothwell, gonna give that engine a go. Are you still willing to check it out for me? Thanks

Hi joleerj

Just curious - how did the engine work / investigation turn out? Did the car actually need a new engine after all?

Had I seen the ad sooner, I would have bought the car as I am in Columbus, OH. - So just curious to follow up the story!

Thanks for your time>

Hi RoadMaster,
the engine purchase fell through. The seller didn't seem to think he should be responsible for preparing it for shipping. He didn't want to crate or palletize it. Go figure. No matter, I have decided to tear into it and rebuild the heads, if needed. I haven't taken them off yet, but I plan to in the next few weeks. I will document the process with pics..

Sounds like the engine seller wanted the easiest way out. Anyways, good luck with the project and keep us posted. I am glad the car went to a good home and will run again.

Thanks for the reply joeleerj - The car is in the best hands.

Perhaps the engine seller expected you to come down and load it into a wheelbarrow - pop it into a truck and off ya go!

It will be interesting to see pics of the work.
