Default Engine near complete

Greetings,
706 HP at 7000, 600 ft lb at 5800. One angry piece of equipment. I'll work on posting a video of one the 21 dyno pulls.
Cheers,

I keep thinking on how it is I can cut, narrow, and stack a second hood/bonnet as a cowl induction scoop to somehow try to maintain the body lines.
Can't get to the dyno run video from this phone app. Will try the desktop later.
Cheers

Clyde, how high above the stock hood line do you have to go, and how wide? If it's more than a few inches in height it will be tough to keep the body lines. Are you thinking a front or rear opening?

Default Hood & Dyno

TillyJon,
I just dream this stuff up - bonnet to bonnet - then search out a fabricator.

Doug,
Not sure how far up I will have to go to cover air filter/induction/carb. Photo shows the carb under a long level sitting from the cowl to the nose. a one inch spacer has been added, so more clearance has disappeared. Will know soon. Opening will be to the rear. Mating the bell housing to the block to check concentricity is next. They the engine will come home.

All,
Dyno video too large, sorry. Even tried zipping it - DNW. I'll have to add it to you tube then try adding the link.
Cheers.

Certifiable, Clyde - what was the wall thickness of the Chromoly on that cage? Looks like a low-rise intake would keep the lump under the bonnet - assume all that height is about flow and horsepower? Even with that it looks like you'll only be up a couple of inches, depending on the air filter assembly. I don't know much about these engines - do they make low profile plenums for carbs that you can duct to cold air? Look forward to your progress.

Doug,
The answer to all your questions would be yes. Would not have needed the intake, cam, & heads I picked and the hood would have closed easily at 500 or close to 600 HP.
The game plan was 700 + HP with a red line of 7500 on pump gas. Compression is 11.2:1. Best pull was 706HP at 7000. Torque from 4800 RPM is 600 ft lb through 6200 RPM. Need any trees removed?
As "they" say, it's all in what the heads can flow. Cam lift is .720", we backed it down a little from the original .750" suggestion of the head builder. Wanted to retain some of the bottom end power. The machinist kept saying don't worry about bottom end power - it has a long arm. Stroke is 4.25". All certifiable numbers.
A few pictures back I'm shining a light down the intake to the back of intake valve - pretty much a straight shot.
The carb builder said and I quote "I hope you know you'll have a handful". 980 CFM.
Thanks for all the comments & views.
Cheers

Wheels arrived today from Vintage Wheel Works out of California. These are as close as I could get to "Minilites" in 17" with the back spacing numbers I needed. Also close in design to the wheels on the Mark Donahue AMC he raced in the Trans Am races in the early '70's.
Cheers

Default Tires

AWOL for a while from here. I've been watching projects from my phone, although not the best venue.

Picked up four Nitto 555 G2's for my project.
275 x 40 x 17" on 9.5" rims for the rear
245 x 45 x 17" on 8" rims for the front

I'm pretty sure the spats are "out" for the rear. There are good clearances everywhere else,.

Nice Clyde, very nice, I think your right spats look like they are out, unless you can fabricate flared spats !

Thanks Jon

Nothing says "Heater Delete" like a "Hurst Line Loc".

Are you using it for burn outs or launch control ? (just working out which way the lunacy is heading !)

Just put a sliding door in the firewall, stepper motor operated of course, you can then have it thermostatically open for as much or little heat as you want from the engine bay, mind you with 700 BHP the pressure wave may blow the windows out, so you may need to link the stepper motor input to the electric window openers so avoid excessive pressure build up in the cabin !!
