240 in Dark Blue ?
I read through all the guides and the books, that the only blue color available on the 240s, was the Indigo Blue.
My Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate says that my exterior color is Dark Blue. As far as the certificate denotes that, I have to fully accept it being correct. But was the Dark Blue an option or you believe this had been a special order? I assume that Dark Blue should have a different color code to Indigo Blue. I am a bit confused here Nassos |

This colour chart only goes up to 1964. To my knowledge they only removed/deleted colours thereafter. Black & white were custom colours in some years & for Police all years. Is your car a metallic finish (Dark Blue Poly)? To my knowledge they did away with metallics on the run-out cars but dates are hazy. Maybe somebody else can chime in. Also if Jag had a painted body & they could sell it they would. They were even prepared to swap LHD to RHD body numbers & vice versa. |

In Nigel Thorley book I see Indigo Blue appearing as the only option of a dark blue color for both Mk2 and 240/340s That's what I am a bit confused. There is no reference to "Dark Blue" as a name of a color But JDHT certs refers to it as DARK BLUE instead of INDIGO BLUE |
See my edits above. All the books by Whyte, Thorley, Taylor et al are best efforts. They are full of errors. Some get corrected in newer editions. Some not. Jaguar's record keeping was not good to start with & many have been lost over time. You could query the JDHT. Ask them if Dark Blue is aka Indigo Blue for some cars?

Dark blue was available between 1965 and 1974, obviously the 240 was not around in 1974 !

Great. That explains that and the Aus listing of Dark Blue. We need to be very careful of taking as gospel the various Jaguar books out there. Mr Thorley is wrong.
Anyway at least Lambretta the OP knows that "Dark Blue" is correct for the period his car was built. If he intends a repaint suggest he finds a non sun exposed section of paintwork for matching like inside the fuel flap or one of the engine compartment scuttle cover plates. The paint shop won't bless you for taking them the trunk/boot lid to match. |
I had a 1966 S-Type in Dark Blue, it was a nice colour.

S Types were officially supposed to be as follows: (This might have been correct for the Browns Lane supplied markets although I doubt even that. SA production, as an example, still had Old English White with Red available in 1965 & 66.) Indigo Blue was never listed as an S Type colour.

I have a similar guide as Ruck. 65-74 Dark Blue, Ditzler code 13141. My Mark1 is Indigo Blue #12119 which is a dark red tone. It has a red under base.

Some research tells me that this S Type was painted Dark Blue. Appeared on Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars" Jaguars at Greenwich episode.
He was not happy with the $16K the car went for at the Bonham's auction. I'm not surprised at all. Mr Carini disappointed me with this car. Headlight trim rings missing or blacked out. Under bonnet a mess, upholstery in grey good but wood not well done. The 240 and 340 were available in Dark Blue, see this page from the brochure from that time http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/..._9-67_11_l.jpg In deed the Dark Blue was an option for 240s according to this brochure with red interior, as it is happening with my car (and this is being confirmed by the JDHT cert) I ve recently seen a Warwick 240 in Athens which was advertised for sale and it came with Red Leather from the factory. So I guess the initial owner had a better taste comparing to the Jaguar marketing dept's decision to sell the car with a beige interior. I think the Red interior matches perfectly the Warwick Grey. As for the Dark Blue, I still think Red is a good option, although if I had to choose, I guess that Midnight Blue would be my 1st choice. |
Despite the missing or painted headlamp trim, this is a very handsome car. This is, in fact, the colour that I planned to paint my 66 Mk 2. 3.8 when I wascrefinishing it. But SWMBO insisted that it be the original Pale Primrose. She was right, of course. But the blue is still beautiful. |
It is a great colour & looked great on TV (I still have the episode recorded & the paint job was superlative ~ but replacing the wrong wheel & doing some minor work on it would have assured him a profit on the car) but I'm with Lambretta. On my screen this looks best of the blues on a Mk2/340.
