Default 240 fuel tank: what's this tube on the filler neck

My 240 was an incomplete and partly dismantled car so as I'm putting it back together I'm running across some questions.
After mounting the fuel tank I realised there's this small tube (4mm diameter?) next to the filler neck. Does this connect to a tube or is this just left open?

Thanks for any input!

That's the breather tube for the tank, connect a tube to it and route it so the fumes can vent away from the trunk (boot) _ to the outside.
