420 for breaking

Evening all , I went to look at another MK2 based project local to home as the S type is scrapped now, turned out it was equally rotten. Bought the car anyway to chop it for bits if anyone is looking for anything for one. Will try and get the engine running, looks like it has had money spent on it and then sat for 30 years as has a new bottom metal pipe and a full new exhaust on it. Car is an auto with power steering. Body is rotten in the usual place, radiator looks salvagable, dash top surround looks good with no splits. Let me know if anyone neds anything.

Is that a 240 or a 420 as per title, kind of different beasts you threw me with the Mk2 based project bit ?

Homersimpson 10-16-2018 02:07 PM

I'm looking for a MK2 rear screen (different to an S-Type/420) but I would need to posted if you would be prepared to? If so let me have a price for it.

Its a 1967 420 S type based car not a 420G. Ideal for an engine transplant into a MK2 or S type as complete with carbs, etc so everything to fit in.

420 S Type ???

Is it an S Type with a 4.2 litre engine, which I don't think there is any such thing, the S Types came with either a 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre, did they not ?

There is a 420, but it's not an S type ???
The front end is totally different on the 420 with a horse shoe shaped grill that slants inwards, while the S Type is the more traditional tear drop grill, but still different that the Mk 2.

This is a 420, basically an S Type with the 420G/MK 10 front end.

Its a 420 which was based on the S type as you say which was based on a MK2. Like in the one in your picture.

Does it have a decent heater water vacuum control valve that is not corroded, works & does not leak?

Remove the boot/trunk chrome "Plinth", and look at the two foam pads behind it.

Are they good? un-melted? I need them.

I am talking about the 420. The plinth is the chromed part mounted to the trunk lid where the reverse and license plate lights are. Comes out by removing 4 nuts ( 7/16ths or 11mm ).

Hi,

I'm interested in the complete engine with manifolds, but without the carburettors, would it be possible to post the engine number?
Plan is to use it in a fast road 1959 MK1

Many thanks,
Axel

Hi there,

I have a 1965 3.8 “S” type, which will share many parts with your 420. I’m after a replacement lower half of the “steering column cowl”, which strangely seem broken on most cars I’ve looked at. I’m also after the little chrome piece just to the rear of the near side door, but it would have to be in good condition. ( I’ve got the piece, but the chrome is a bit pitted)
someone else has mentioned the chromed reverse light/number plate housing on the boot-once again I’ve got the original, but the chrome isn’t brilliant.
if you have any of those bits you’d like to sell, please drop me a line.

Regards, Richard Hinds

Looking for a sound 420 bonnet/hood

jerry_hoback 08-12-2019 06:04 PM

I could use a pair of the front turn lamps. Entire unit with housing. Especially right side as mine is no currently in the car. Thanks!

What colour is the interior, I'm looking for some suede green interior pieces (left had door card and front kick panels)?

The OP is completely unresponsive!

I need three of the windscreen chrome moulding dress/split covers. they are the small pieces that cover the meeting of the two C shaped inserts.

I think you can buy these new for not a lot of money?

You can from all the known suspects like Barrats, David Manners etc.

I have a mark 2 rear screen. I am due to travel from Chester to Essex on 11th September so could meet on route. I will be returning on the following Sunday. Interested?

glen, homer - 10 pounds a pop plus VAT and shipping?! I love what you guys do to your cars. Exceptional standards and attention to the finest detail. ( I've seen Glen's replated instrument panel). Me, I'm struggling to pay the mortgage. I suppose I'll fab them myself. Thanks for the tip anyway. - stu
