auxiliary starting carburetter

Hello, I went to start my Dad's old Jag yesterday as we tend not to use her in the winter and I like to keep things ticking over. Foolishly I did not wait for the fuel pump to stop ticking before I started her up like I was taught to do. I have recently replaced the fuel pump and thought that the new one might work a bit differently?? She did fire up but then there was fuel all over the garage floor. This had been coming from the auxiliary starting carburetter.

Is there something just sticking that just needs a dismantle and a clean or is there something that need replacing?

Thank you

Harry

Have you replaced the pump with the correct item ? The fuel pumps for these cars are low pressure devices, not those used for fuel injection systems.

As Fraser said, did you replace the fuel pump with the correct SU type ?

If it's the correct fuel pump, check the float bowls that the floats are still floating, and that the needles haven't stuck.

It's a process of elimination, do you know the SU carbs well enough to take them apart somewhat ? We can help, but best to know what level of expertise you have.

the auxiliary starting carb os known to spit fuel in your face but only when you get close to it.

sounds like a flooded bowl.
