Engine - year of make

Hallo
For my MKII restoration project I have swapped the old seized 2,4 for a 3.4 engine nr KG7303-8 and I would like to know what year this one was made. Many times one must choose sparepart for early or late engines and at least I would like to determine my engines age in those terms?

Kjell,
The date is usually casted into the block. I believe the right side (exhaust) towards the rear of the block.

OK thanks for the tip . I installed engine in car last week so maybe hard to read now. Wonder why there is no list of year like it is for chassie numbers.

Hi Kjell,

Wonder why there is no list of year like it is for chassie numbers.
Because until emissions control came along, if an engine was found laying around the plant they would install it. So if a MKII engine was found in a repair bay and it had been sitting there for 6 months it could be installed in the next MKII coming down the line.

Dr. Tom Haddock, document this in one of his books on E-type. There was a graph of engine number VS Chassis number and it looked like a scatter chart and not a straight line.

Aha I see it was the year of the assembled car that was important. No one was expecting there would be crazy people like us.
