generator or alternator
The car came with a aftermarket a/c unit. It has a rinky-dink four blade pushing fan between the grill and the condenser coil. I'm wondering about the draw on the generator with the a/c and fan. I'd like to replace the stock fan and the add on a/c fan with a good (2500-3000 CFM), https://www.summitracing.com/parts/flx-168/overview/ ,pushing electric fan. This post had somethings to say about the abilities of the original generator:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...ersion-202117/
Any comments or help appreciated. - Stu |
That new fan takes almost 20A , so may well have an effect on the dynamo's ability to keep up, what Dynamo do you have fitted at present ? If you have been reading the Air Con thread and it's contents, you will have seen that there was a need to upgrade to a 60A alternator when there were issues with night driving with lights on and AC.
The biggest benefit of the Alternator over the Dynamo is that is gives a higher output at low revs. |
Yes ~ the standard 30 amp dynamo & even the "uprated" 35 amp unit is unlikely to keep up with mod cons fitted to the vehicle.
There are a range of Dynalites that look original & are available with PAS pump offtake. Up to 60 amp IIRC. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...6c4e4caf50.jpg PAS pump offtake https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...e617384ec2.png And not look alike but will accommodate PAS pump & output 65 amps. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...2115e28b0b.png |
Who makes the last Alternator with the take off Glyn ?
