Proper door sealing, window frame to door sealing & door card protection crucial. Cuts wind noise. Stops water getting to your woodwork & door cards. Original Prestik type material used by Jaguar to seal frames to doors deteriorated badly. Interior of doors liberally coated with Tectyl & longlife Polyurea Synthetic grease on all mechanisms.

Original car during stripping. Fortunately zero rust. Man they were liberal with contact adhesive.

Finished job.

Wow, just wow!

Visiting from the XJ8 (X308) section of the forum, (but have owned MK 2 and MK X in the past).

That is one wonderful restoration, congratulations on such a dedicated and exceptional restoration/preservation of a classic Jag, You should be truly proud.

Gorgeous car and beautifully finished inside! I have just bought this Mk2 3.4 and will be changing the interior to that same colour.

Default Car Trim

Very useful! I have been talking to John Skinner today and liked the sound of them. May I ask how much the actual fitting work cost? I am getting estimates of around £3,000

Jon (Jonathan) Skinner himself is a star (His dad was John that the company is named after). What a pleasure to deal with. The S Type roof lining is a pain on pre panel models like mine where the centre portion is glued to the dome.

At an exchange rate of 20 to 1 Rands to the Pound exactly 3000 Pounds. You are right in the ball park. You get what you pay for. My guy is very good and gets entrusted with some very exotic machinery. I did not want a botched job. I've seen some horrors by so called specialists.

My guys work included preparing the dome. Fitting all the Dynamat to the floor, tunnel & scuttle. Fitting the front & rear windows that he insisted on so no one could mess up his work. Union cloth roof lining needs to run into the rebate under the window rubbers. Fitting all wood other than the dash. And fitting all Hardura, Hardura felt & millboards to the boot & lid. Fitting the under bonnet lining & covering the heaterbox. Powder coating seat frames & springs in Dove Grey. Fitting the full Skinner kit. (seat foams & padding, all upholstery, Headlining. All underfelt & carpeting, Door panels & their fittings. Furflex. Console & parcel shelves, etc.) Also made up matching overmats for me front & rear. Fitting all interior chromework, including re-riveting armrest mechanisms, other than dash. He also fitted radio.

We did dash as I replaced all harnesses in the car, restored gauges, re-flocked the glovebox etc.

I'm at present working on my complete Toolkit ~ with the steel & wood variety case. I have had the wooden tray re-flocked & I've resprayed the metalwork. Just screw heads to be painted & then reassembly.

As stated the kit is complete & correct but I have a question.

Does anybody know what year the Tyre Valve Extractor moved from Brass to Yellow Plastic? I have both.

i.e.

I can't help Glyn as my original tool kit was stolen by the renovators before I got the car and I have had to make up a tool lit from auto jumbles. I have never seen the plastic valve tool only th ebrass one which I have in my new made up box. David should know on the S type forum or Alan as both have original cars. Failing that put out a survey question on the S Type forum for owners with their original tool boxes and judge the results by year.
If there was a change from brass to plastic I would have thought it would coincide with the BMC/BL amalgamation around 66/67. Best guess would be when a major change came in like the paint colours and Ambla seat material in September 67.

Hi Glyn,
I want to fit three point seat belts to the rear seats of my '67 Mk 2. It only has lap belts at present. Are you able to confirm that your car has the third, shoulder level mounting point please? I asked the JEC guy and he said yes, but that was based on his '67 Jag 420 which is a later design even though it shares many body shell parts.

On S types there is a shoulder strap mounting point under the rear parcel shelf by some time in 64 IIRC. By 67 I would have thought Mk2's similarly equipped but don't know definitively.
