Help Steering boss -
 

Hi Forum,

i am seeking a Steering boss for the MKII jag (67) to fir the tourist trophy steering wheel (WHEEL,15IN, WOOD RIM, TT,SOLID 489-090)

I had originally purchased the wheel and boss from Moss US but due to some confusion the incorrect boss has been supplier, on last contact they said they have no more nor can the special order!!!

The oni i have is apparently for the e-type (454-338) and the spline does not fit due to size.

Anyone have the part number - web site (order and ship to australia) as i would like to get the wheel fitted to ASAP

as far as I know, the splined shaft is the same size as any Jaguar syeering column of the period?

if anything does not line up using a different brand boss, it will be the steering wheel-hub bolt holes.

I am surprised Moss cannot supply the correct Jaguar boss, I purchased my Tourist Trophy steering wheel and boss-horn push kit them and it fit my S type fine.

if they cannot supply the proper boss, tell them you want your money back and they should pay for the return postage.

another option is to carefully cut out the hub/boss section from the original steering wheel, and adapt it to the new steering wheel, drilling bolt holes where needed.

yes, you will destroy the original steering wheel but if you don't plan to use it again...

Also, are you dealing with Moss Motors in California USA? or Moss Motors UK ?

I was contemplating this, I haven't got the new steering wheel yet, and was wondering if the original boss area was big enough to cover the fixing holes on the new steering wheel. It would be easy enough to cut the wheel and turn the boss down on the lathe.

with the factory XJ-6 steering wheel from 1980-1987 it has already been done.

with your talent for machine work, I bet you can do it.
