loose ends (wiring)
I spent the morning putzing with the dizzy wiring. Seems the internals were a bit worn frayed and possibly shorting? Got that done, but now more loose ones:
I'm assuming the green/black wire inside the black sheath goes some where near the choke solenoid (if I've pegged that part right, that is) but I can't find a male terminal plug anywhere around it. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...4a2be6e53b.jpg wire is green/black female terminal plug Got the two green and green/purple ones sorted (brake switch). The yellow/purple one's got me stumped. Horn? https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...103a0e5eee.jpg yellow/purple with female terminal plug |
Green & black goes to the Otter switch. Purple & yellow goes to the horn solenoid Terminal C1 or to one of the horns. Note that some cars had their horns wired via the ignition & some not.

glyn - pretty sure you nailed the otter switch with the post above and yes the wire in the harness branch with the coil leads was it. this one in the vicinity of the choke solenoid is too short to have reached the otter switch. I'll just get the multi tester out and find the other end I hope. . . Also the car has been After Market wired for a period electric pushing cooling fan to help out the AM A/C unit, so there is some extra stuff and non stock wires in the harness (well next to the harness anyway). thanks for the pics, very helpful. |
Then it's the throttle switch for the anti creep valve I presume. You have an Auto.
EDIT: Jaguar could have used another wiring colour to save confusion! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...40e3044861.jpg |
The shortage of wire colours was probably down to saving cost rather than confusion Glyn, if you look at the old Lucas wiring colours and their uses, there is some kind of obscure (very) logic honestly there is !!!

I have to say that the total re-harness/wire of my car went pretty smoothly. Gave my guy a Fluke meter with audible continuity beep to make working single handed easier when I was not in town doing the nerd manual paging & diagram gazing. It also helped that my upholstery man is a qualified aircraft instrument fitter. When my man doing the grunt work got confused with the windscreen wiper circuit while I was in Cape Town he stepped in & sorted that very quickly.
I'm used to modern CANBus/Network communication in cars & SAMS. |

Stuart, I seem to be about one month behind you, in trying to get a long sidelined MK2 started up.
I am having the same issue with those pesky Green w/blk wires and the Starter Carb/Auto Choke. Were you able to put a terminal on your broken Green w/blk wire that was IN with the White Coil wire, and wire it up to the Otter Switch? Did the Starter Carb function properly wired this way? |
switched to working on the fuel supply. tanks, lines, pumps etc. i'll let you know when i get back to the front end. - stu
