Almost certainly a typical failure of the Marelli ignition system...which is really two ignition systems in one, leaving one side or the other prone to failure while the opposite side still functions. Most commonly it's the RH side that fails.

First, remove the distributor cap to inspect the rotor. You may well find the problem right there. There are other possible faults, though, so post back.

Cheers

Hello, Al,
I'm sorry to read of your V12 fire. Not the first one I've known of either. One of my Jaguar club fellow members, had the same experience as you; after repair named his car Phoenix. 2 months later it flamed again but that time, completely beyond repair and it went to a junk yard in Rancho Cordova.

I sincerely hope yours does Not meet the same fate, and you get that ignition fixed properly.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum. I feel your pain, there is a good reason my car is called "Fireball":icon_goofygrin:

Welcome.

Yep, Doug has nailed it. Marelli fire is common, and well documented in the XJS Tech Section, that Graham has linked you to, including ALL the fixes.
