1st time jaguar owner
Hi,
I am new to Jaguar ownership. I have always admired the cars and decided after years of owning German (BMW and Mercedes) to finally buy one. 1996 XJ6. The car is great but there was no manual to tell you how everything works. I figured out most of it but wouldn't mind knowing more. Can anyone tell me where to find info on how stuff works,ie. cruise control, trip meters, etc. Thanks |
Welcome to the world of Jaguars. I used to own a 96 XJ6 and it was quite an enjoyable car. Recommend you go to a dealer and see if you can order manuals for your car. You can also download the JTIS application that can be found on the General Tech form. Look for christo. Although it covers the 98-03 XJs, a lot of information is still relevant.

Thanks
Thanks, went to the dealer and they were basically no help. The parts guy I spoke with didn't seem to knowledgeable. I was looking for a former mechanic turned salesman that I met a couple of years ago when I first started looking to buy. (took my time looking for the right car at the right price).
Thanks again. |

Greetings Sac,
Congrats, you bought a great car. Send me a private message if you need the manuals; in addition to the one carelm mentioned, there are separate manuals for vehicle care, security system, and sound system. Gets expensive if you buy them all new, if they are even still in print. Happy motoring! |
Welcome to the forums , I glad you had a great choice

Thanks, I got those last 3 manuals, I was just looking to get info on changing the programing on the drivers seat (former owner's wife in position one sits real close and so I don't use the remote),understanding the trip data, etc.
I will go through the forum and look for the answers. |
Hi sacjag,
I'm assuming that the remote you have works for the "1" memory position. If so, here is what I did: 1. Adjust seat, steering wheel and mirrors to your preferences. 2. Hit Memory button. You will hear a tone and the button will light up. 3. Hit "1". This saves the settings. If you have two sets of remotes, you will discover that one is for each memory setting. In my case "2" was for my remote. Try the Lock and Unlock functions to make sure your settings are saved. Mike |
Thanks for the info carelm
Thanks for the info. I will try it out. Unfortunately I only have the one remote and yes it is for position #1.
My mechanic says he can reprogram another remote if I can find one on ebay or craigslist. This would be great as a new one from the dealer is $350 without programing. |
Another altenative is to just get a basic key made by your local Jag dealer. You can do this for about $100. For the primary user, use the programmed key fob. The secondary user can just hit the "2" or "3" button for the memory setting after unlocking the car but before entering the car. This will move the seat, mirror and steering wheel settings to the pre-selected memory settings. I did this because I could never get my wife to go through this process. It was easier for me to give her the key fob and I would hit the memory button for my setting.

Instructions worked great!
Instructions worked great! I did have an extra key made (have to have a back up) and had been using it so as not to have to re-adjust the seat each time. With the seat reprogramed I can use either. Thanks again.
