2004 XJ8 New Member With Much Anguish and Suffering
Hi Folks,
I live in East Tennessee and I recently purchased a 2004 XJ8 from a friend. He inherited the car and he is not mechanically inclined so he sold it to me. I made him what I thought was a fair offer but now I realize I paid him twice what the thing is worth. I consider myself a decent mechanic having worked on hot rods since I was 16 but this car if like nothing I have ever experienced before. Since I got it in November 2021 it hasn't really been that dependable of a car. Mechanically she is fine but electronically not so good. I replaced the battery and now I'm getting a parking brake fault, U2523, B2141, B1318, B1672, P1797, P1642, and P1000. None of these seem like critical issues but I can't seem to make them go away and I refuse to take this thing to a dealer to turn off an OBD2 code. Thanks, Gregory https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...64b068c341.jpg |

Do you have a shop manual for the car? I think I would start there.
Since you have experience I think with a little practice you will find it's just a car with 4 wheels an engine and transmission. I know when I got my first Jag I was worried I would cause some multi-thousand dollar mistake that only could be fixed by the Jaguar dealer! It's just not that tuff. First clear all codes and start again. I think you have been clearing the codes because you have P1000? P1000 means all the emission monitors were reset and have not completed yet. Just don't get the car inspected until that P1000 turns to P1111. You probably know this but the letter that the code starts with tells you where the error is.
So my first question/suggestion is how old is the battery? But it will be MUCH better if you post to the correct forum as this is the new members section. So welcome aboard!! . . . |

Hello, Gregory,
It's true, Jaguar didn't do a lot of things like everyone else does. It's like, If there was a hard way they found it. If there wasn't, they invented a hard way. Sometimes the simplest things are made needlessly complex. It can be Quite annoying not to mention Frustrating! But, members of the section where GGG has directed you have Deep experience dealing with your particular model and will be Delighted to help you sort yours out. Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
