ac compressor removal instructions 1988 sjcs
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the steps for removing a ac compressor I am not a mechanic but will not pay the price they want .If not any good manual out there for this task.

First thing to do is not to attempt removal without extracting the refrigerant gas into a closed tank, i.e. do not vent it to atmosphere, it is illegal and dangerous. Air con specialists are the ones who have the kit to do this, and I am not sure why you want to do it yourself if you are not a mechanic. Air con maintenance and repair is is one job to leave to the experts.
Is there no air-con shop near you with a better price ? I suspect you have been quoted for a new compressor. They are not cheap items, but you can find cheaper on the internet, if you can get an air con shop to swap them out for you. |
Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your compressor. When you can, tell us more about your Jag.and maybe post a picture or two. Have a good time here.

It'll be pretty easy since there's no freon in the system to deal with. Two bolts hold the compressor in at the fron and two hold it in at the rear. Remove bolts, wires, and bolts...and lift it out. You'll have to remove the cruise control bellows to reach the rear bolts. Cheers DD |
Thanks It didnt look complicated

The Harrison A6 compressor is the same one used by GM cars since the 60s??
Make sure you get the compressor with METRIC threads and not the standard ones. You can use the standard one but you will have to swap out all the mounting hardware to avoid ruining the threads. Good luck with the swap. bob gauff |
Thanks for the info ..............JJ
