...of older Jaguars.

Ok, so I also have a thing for Volvo's, but after picking up a couple of cheap 3.2 XJ6's I am smitten! I'm amazed you can waft about and feel all regal for less than a grand. I have the use of a few month old Audi, too, but it bores the pants of me compared to the Jags.

The blue one needed a new rear light, a caliper and had a wee clonk from the front suspension top bushes so I purchased and sorted all those and it's now pretty spot on. It had a short MOT but passed with 2 minors. The clock works, the air-con works etc but the roof lining was shot, so for now, I ripped it all out.

The red one has a stack of history but has a few niggles I need to look in to; although nothing major.

Combined, I picked them both up for £1100. £500 for one and £600 for the other. Madness if you ask me. What else can you waft around in for that kind of money?!

I'm Astonished that these cars can be had for this petty cash! What is it about these cars that they lose resale value so completely??
Oh well, it's good for those who appreciate Fine Automobiles.

if the classic car investment craze keeps going then in the not too distant future the X300 will be rapidly taken up as a car to have if only because the majority have gone to the crushers...perhaps more so for the X300 XJR's (but i would say that having only owned XJR's)...

Its the traditional Jaguar style 6 cylinder AJ16 engine that gives the X300 the edge over the later X308 V8...the 6 pot AJ16 long stroke, medium revving, medium compression engine that's reliable commonly to over 200,000 miles....But eventually they will need rebuilding and therein lies the problem with the AJ16 engine being the availability of simple rebuild parts like crank and conrod bearing shells, piston rings....there are none.

But I do love the X308 for its dash board design....nice and curvy....the car was unfortunately plagued with bad press issues about timing chain tensioners and Nikasil bore liners, the latter being less of an issue if you didn't suffer from buying highly sulphured fuel which killed them.....An unaffected nikasil engine will outlast a steel linered engine at the end of the day.

Both cars have rot problems....rear wheel arch rust is inevitable with the way the inner and outer panels are brought together in a tapering pinch point where condensation from the inside of the car will run down and eat the metal eventually
