Default First Issue with 6cyl. 95 XJS 2+2daily driver for 5 years

Hi all I have loved Jags since I was 11 or 12 (73?) and had a crush on the violin player for a band called Dan Hicks & his Hot Licks. Beauty of a man with an even more stunning type E. He was a Jag Mechanic too and that car was a heart stopper both on the road and off! Still gets my heart pounding just thinking about that car! Anyway about 5 years ago I came into a little money and wanted to treat myself and since I have Always wanted a Jag convertible I bought one. 😁 and although not the jaw dropper Sid’s car was I don’t go out without at least one thumbs up or comment at some point. I am mechanically inclined and can hear and feel a good running car and detect issues subliminally (even if I can’t do the work I can diagnose most issues with a bit of research) Anyway only 80,000 miles and felt sweet so I was pretty sure I had found a good one after the first road test. Turned out I was buying the car from a Jag mechanic (not a car salesman)& I have literally had not one mechanical problem since & I have done nothing drive it, but change the oil every 2k and keep her clean and well maintained. I really want to put new seat covers on (any suggestions where to look for seats that arent outrageously $$$ I can do the work myself) and need new tires, but those things are to be expected in a car this age. Still only has 91k on her and ran like a top until she didn’t - a couple of sputters on acceleration and died a couple of times one day, then wouldn’t start the next. Thought maybe something got wet (a window seal was leaking and got water in a door that leaked into the floorboard on driver’s side. Dried it out & it started (with coaxing) but won’t start since - Believe it’s the Crank Shaft Sensor or ECU - any suggestions on what to check first? Nice to find you!

Thanks,
Shannon

Welcome. You sure had a good run! I think that there is an ECM under the right kickpanel. Good luck.

Hello, Shannon,
Pretty Car!!
Yours is the Only model XJS I would ever be interested in owning, but with a V-12. It's the tail lights actually, with the rag top.
Someone will be along shortly to direct you to our XJS section where the Gurus can get you on the right track pronto.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Shannon,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Great colour combination. Is there a broken exhaust hanger on the RH rear? The tailpipe looks very low.

Thank you! I know in the Jag. World it may not be anything super special but I adore this car and it’s past dependability has contributed to it holding a very special place in my world! Pretty heartbroken that I can’t figure out what’s up and what’s though I am mechanically inclined and able to do repairs I don’t know what I’m looking at or where to look. I was cleaning out the oil under the battery apartment in the trunk and found a vacuum line that is connected to nothing and a hole for another vacuum line that has nothing in it & I don’t know what they are for or if they are even supposed to have anything connected

It does have a broken exhaust hanger! I hadn’t noticed it! Thank you! I am a super novice working on this car andsince this is the first time I have needed to learn there is going to be a high learning curve and I need all basic diagrams and system info for this car and don’t really have a clue what I am looking at such as: What is the vacuum hose under the battery in the trunk(pic attached) for and is it supposed to be connected ? Any and all help and points in right direction to resolve my lack of experience is greatly appreciated and utilized I just don’t always respond promptly because I want to check/try the things that are suggested and am a single mom (5 kids in 2 college freshman, 2 sophomores, and a special needs foster child) so running like crazy and my one gift to myself is sick and not able to play -give me my me time. Kind of funny I have been in such a financial jamb I was considering putting the XP’s on the market and decided I had to the day went down - hoping she doesn’t want to go and I will find a simple cheap fix once the $ crisis has passed so I won’t need to let her go.

Shannon,

Not many members come back to an Intro once they have read and/or replied to it. You need to take these issues to the XJS forum:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xjs-x27-32/

Start a new thread - members there with the same model will have the answers.

Graham
