Hey everyone glad to have found this forum,I just bought a 2001 xk8, with bad engine, replaced it with a 2000 xj8 engine the car was a joy to ride til the rain now I,m in failsafe mode

1faraway, sorry to hear that the kitty isn't feeling well. Taking a wild stab in the dark, I would venture to guess that the seal for the plug on the throttle body is leaking, leading to a problem with throttle control. Granted, may be a damaged TPS sensor too. Either are likely suspects with this. Hopefully when you got the failsafe mode alarm, it also threw up the check engine light. That will shed a lot of light on this. So, if your CEL is lit, go to a local auto parts store and have them read the code(s) for you. THen we can get you taken care of with more precise information.

Well the codes i got were 1367, 0121,1111, tried to clean connectors and tb, but have'nt taken it completely off looks like four bolts holding it in but unsure if this is beyond my skill set, where does the tps harness end how do i test for a short

1faraway, the other end of the wires for the TPS is at the ECU. What I would tell you to do is to first remove the plug at the TB and using some compressed air (air in a can will work) and blow out the plug really good to make sure it is dry. ALso, do an inspection of the plug to make sure the connectors inside the plug look good. Next, locate the ECU (I don't have my JTIS, so, I am not sure where the ECU is located inside your vehicle) and then check the plug there for the same things (really look at whether the plug is on there tight and also the gasket is in good condition and not ripped). IF all this looks good and the problem continues, odds are you will need a new TPS. All of this should be within your capabilities. REplacing the TPS is nothing more than 2 screws and a plug, then the TPS slides off. No special programming is needed.

Well yesterday I removed the throttle body wasnt going to be happy until i did ,cleaned it with crc tb cleaner, spayed and cleaned all connectors with crc electronic cleaner and put it all back cleaned the grounds under the left side fuse box and slowly pressed the pedal up and down for a five count three times, remove the negative battery cable touched it to the positive waited 20 seconds and put it back on let car idle for 10 min then drove a couple of blocks in normal and sport, nothing yet but have not gone far still would like to know how to follow these wires

welcome faraway, if you'd like some more technical help, I'd definitely get your topic started over in the xk8-r area, as you'll get lots of welcomes and greetings from members with different models...less likely to get specific advice. It does sound like you're on the right path, I too think its TB related...especially when water is introduced into the chain of events leading to the problem. Good luck to ya!
