Have been reading posts on strange noises from front of engine. Your not crazy, instead of looking at the vvt, think outside the box, and what i found will come as a surprise.
Check the Harmonic Balancer, I did out of desperation and found it was the culprit. When i started the car in the AM. no noise, but later yes it was definatly there. It seems with what i found was the secondary pulley had come loose at the bolts and everytime i excelerated the noise was there, IT DROVE ME NUTS!!! Try looking outside the boxlike i did, and you will find YOU ARE NOT NUTS EITHER!!!
