New 1988 XJ40, new to Jaguars

Hello all,
I recently acquired a 1988 XJ40 with 120k on the clock in quite good shape. This is my first Jaguar after many years of admiring the aesthetic of these cars. I have only recently gathered the wherewithal, space and tools to properly maintain a car like this and am very much looking forward to the challenge. It's a long to do list that focuses mostly on knocking off cobwebs and chasing down electrical issues and I've already gained quite a lot of useful information from this forum so thanks to all! Looking forward to contributing when and where I can
Cheers,
Albert

Welcome to the forum Albert,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ40 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome Albert. I can guess from your use of English that you are British, but whereabouts are you ?
120K is nothing for a well-maintained Jag. The AJ6 engine in it is strong and not difficult to work with - being similar to my own XJ-S. The body work has few vices, not unlike my own X300, with the areas of concern being the lower part of the front wings and the door bottoms. I'd say that lubrication and rust-proofing are the keys to long Jaguar life.
Enjoy - your Jaguar and the forum !

This, sir, is probably the greatest complement I'll hope to receive from an internet forum, thank you! I'm currently living in the Pacific Northwest US (Tacoma, WA). I grew up in the Midwest with a father who didn't care if the cops brought me home at 3AM but would flip his lid if I misused a personal pronoun.
