New to forum, but not Jaguars.
 

Hello, Todd Barket from Tampa Florida.

I have recently purchased my first Jaguar, a 2003 Carnival Red / Sand S-Type 3 liter. It has the optional moonroof and chrome 16" wheels and I bought it with about 94,000 miles for $7,500.00

My family has owned a few in the past; '73 XJ6 4.2, 67 E-type, 86 XJ-S and for a very short time a Mk-II.

I have always felt that the Jaguars were among the best looking cars on the road. They just stood out among the hoards of look-a-like autos out there. Also driving a Jaguar was more then just going somewhere, there was the smell of the leather, the graceful quite, the decidedly british interior.

These were modern cars that exemplified the very nature of high end coach building in the 30's in a 'mass produced' car.

Of course the older cars lived up to their reputations regarding reliability, but you lived with it happily.

Other than a restricted performance warning in cold weather start up (coils, based on the forums) the car is bulletproof. I am looking forward to joining the local Jaguar owners club and meeting some fellow enthusiasts.

Welcome to the forum Todd, why do you guys call it a Moonroof, Do you only open it at night when the moon is out?

Yes I have always wondered myself. I have a theory though: In the states, most OEM and aftermarket companies that build and or install 'sunroofs' install a glass panel pop up and or lift out unit that does not include a sliding shade. Hench I think the term sunroof. While the 'Moonroof', with its pop up / sliding open and built in sliding shade (eclipse?) has more of a prestige feel and was called the moonroof as a further marketable term.

Of course I am likely to be dead wrong, but it sounds good. :)

Yes, something of one. The one that got away still bothers me though, even 25 years later. We were driving through Hartford CT, and found a gentleman who had advertised an XK-150 DHC, for $3,500. We looked at it, it was a beautiful red with stunning wire wheels. The owner had done a fine job restoring the car, it was at the 90% stage needing only the weather striping, body molding and chrome installed and the transmission connected to the rear end.

All in all a more than fair price for the car as it sat. We offered him a $200 deposit (all we had with us at the time) and he agreed to sell us the car in two weeks after the transmission had been connected.

Needless to say he promptly sold it to a buyer from Texas who showed up with cash the following day. I still kick myself on that. While the S1 E-type is amoung the three most beautiful cars ever made the 120/140/150 series just moved you emotionally when you looked at them.
