One thing you could do before removing the entire assembly is to use a screwdriver and apply pressure to the plate and see if it causes any effect on the pin, in my case it did nothing. If it does retract, then simply adjust the plunger under the lid.
The pin does move freely. But the pressure/plate on the bottom is stuck down. Making me think that might be the reason a fuse in circuit 1 blew.

Going to look into maybe wiring a push button switch just to energize the plunger. Finding a suitable place for the switch may be a issue, being I don't want to start drilling holes, or really making a mess out of things.

The other option I was thinking would be replace the electrical system with a mechanical type of latch. I like you have on a cabinet door.

Will do some research, and post my fix for this once I get it done.

Welcome. Nice looking car. Mine had several niggling problems when I got it, but armed with the knowlege that its mine and I can take it apart if i want, all was well in a couple of days. Kudos to the profession of Engineer. Good luck with your car.

I was thinking about the electronics on the fuel door...

Since the magnetic plunger needs to be energized for a second to allow the fuel door to pop open..

If one could fix the bottom, IE Switch, a simple 555 timer circuit could be build to replace the electronics.

Radio operator as well. With my Jag, you have to place your key in the driver door lock turn it counter clockwise and it will trip the deal that locks the gas cap cover, press down on the cover and it pops open, 73.
