Hi all, name is Mallory (I am a guy....friends and family call me "Mal").
I am embarrassed to say that I brought my 2003 Jag s-type (4.2L) about 2 years ago and I have been using this forum (without contributing) for info ever since.
To bring everyone up to speed...I found "Cecilia" (that's what I call her) about 2 yrs ago at what I call a steal ( less than $2000), I then took it to the mech who installed new rotors, breaks , antifreeze tubes etc to get the car on the road (said he couldn't find anything else wrong ) for another $800. I used this car mostly on weekends as I work in the city ( Manhattan) and my lady lives in CT (about 30-35 miles away...good opportunity to try out the car and it's great).
Noticed the heat did not work during the first year...toughed it out. Had a broken tie rod out in CT but took about 50 different phone calls to find a shop that had the part then wheel alignment ( no complaints as it was the first issue it ever gave me). Always paid extra for full oil changes, always premium gas. I just recently had a bad antifreeze leak and paid $400 to replace, I was first offered a full fix of the intake manifold, heater core and tubes for $1600 but I could not afford it at the time. . Will try this car out a bit this weekend.
Changed my thermostat and water pump to see if It would fix the heat but no luck. I am down to changing the heater control valve but every mech seems like they are trying to charge me an arm and a leg for it.
I will try to put up pics and contribute more to make up of 2 yrs of "Ghost following" .
Been surviving with only 1 key FOB (plan on getting a second as this one is defective and doesn't lock the car)
So far as the winter is coming to a close I wont have much issues with it...........oh I forgot to mention that I got the car with a few scratches but it only had about 60xxx miles on it....now it is at 70xxx.
Best Regards and Hi again,
Mal

Welcome to the forum Mal,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Great Intro. I hope Cecilia isn't breaking your heart.
After two years you must know the way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Update 2/17/18
update 2/17/18 , me & Cecilia went to Stamford, CT. Drives very smooth. My odometer says 65,xxx (attached).
I also have to do an inspection and get rid of these codes(attached) ( P0341, P1000, P0340, P0456, P0341 and P0327) hopefully it doesn't
cost too much .
Brought a new key fob that needs programming and cut (got a guy coming on sunday for $120).

The Jaguar Powertrain DTC Summaries lookup will tell you a lot more about the error codes. Here's P0456 as an example - see Possible Causes I've boxed in red:
P1000 is a status code indicating OnBoard Monitoring tests have NOT been completed. It will change to P1111 when the tests are completed. You will alway see one of these two codes.

Update
Hey guys, just an update. Fixed my serious leaking now I noticed cecilia takes a bit longer to start than usual. I took it to 2 mechs and they stressed how great the engine and trans system is and I should not worry about the error codes ( camshaft sensor).
on my Merry way to CT, my car dies. After a lovely night of getting towed etc. I brought my car to get checked out again, apparently every time the engine revs past a certain rpm....the engine dies. I think the ECM sensor has to be replaced but will get an update today.

Looks to me like you need a camshaft A sensor and a number 1 knock sensor. If the knock sensor is bad the computer may shut it down before damage is done. I'm not a Jaguar expert but it could be programmed that way. I read up on a Ford from the same era and it would kill the engine if certain conditions were met.

Hey guys, just another Update.
A few weeks ago I sent Cecilia to see 2 mechanics (I was worried about this whole camshaft sensor error code stuff), both told me there was nothing wrong with the car. I then drove to CT (from Brooklyn) and guess what...driving as I normally do, ran into traffic and the car died on me....Calmly turning off the car then back on....died again, happened 3 times. I was able to pull over in the middle of the fork in the roadway. I was literally stuck right before hitting the white-stone bridge with my humble companion smokey (my half Yorkie, half Pomeranian)....not panicking, I called my insurance who initially told me they cover up to 3 miles in towing but at my surprise (and expense)....the area I was stuck in seemed to be what they called uhhhh "restricted roadway"....the most they would be able to do was call a tow truck for me....once arrived I had to cough up about $145 to get towed a half a mile..(think they took advantage of my situation) then the following day my old man forced her back home (took a while)....
The story is the camshaft sensor errors caused the car to have ignition issues and died before It had a chance to do more damage. After that I found another Mech (one of those guys who works on BMW's , Audi's etc) replaced all four camshaft sensors and installed a thermostat housing (still trying to fix the heat but didnt work) all for about another $650 and.......Cecilia was back and driving better than ever.........I checked the air levels in the tires and continued driving the car........also got some side door mirror covers from ebay and some chrome covers from Amazon and ......we are doing really good so far. Recently had some antifreeze leaks again but I was able to change the tubing on top myself. (all this time I am thinking about the bad hype Jaguar gets but so far.......This journey is not only helping me love driving but teaching me to use mechanics less and less and less) Me and Cecilia against the world !!!! ( new pic of Cecilia added on my profile)
Side note , Before old man winter comes back I have to see if I can change the Heater Control Valve......might be the missing piece to fixing the heat....stay tuned.
