Greetings!
My name is Patrick and I live in Nashville, TN. I am/was thinking of buying a "Jag S Type R" with 164K until I mentioned it to a mechanic who cautioned me not to because of "all of the problems" Jags in particular and these Jags specifically had. Now, I heard the same warnings before I bought a Porsche 928 several years back and while it certainly did need to be maintained, it didn't turn out to be the horror story everyone warned me about! So, as I did with the 928, I am hoping people on this site can provide advice, etc. and I can become a lifelong member. I guess I am assuming I have to wait 3 days to post to the other sites and am looking forward to it.

Hello, Patrick,
If I had a nickle for every discouraging word I've had about my Jaguar, I could buy 2 more! Don't believe them! They're just Jealous.

Someone will be along shortly to direct you to our very active S-type section, where members will help you with whatever you need to get your new Jag on the road again.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Patrick,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Your first problem is going to be finding a mechanic whose Jaguar knowledge doesn't stop in the 1970's. This bad reputation sticks (predominantly amongst those with little or no direct experience of Jaguars) but it does have the advantage for buyers of reducing used car values.

No Jaguar is a low maintenance vehicle. They do require care, attention and money to keep them right. Expensive vehicles when new, running costs of used examples still reflect this.

The S-Type and other Jaguar models have recognised issues which are widely discussed and successfully resolved by members on the forum.

It's essential to choose the vehicle wisely and this means looking closely at maintenance history and checking work has been done on the known weak points or the price is adjusted to take this into account.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Southern Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...rn-midwest-67/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
