New member and New to me jaguar xj8 VDP

Hello Everyone.
Im new here so be gentle.
My name Jay , From Outside of Avon NY
My Car's Name is Ohwhathavedone.
I recently picked up a jag xj8 - 4.0 with 97+k miles on it.
She called to me to save her from being parked outside under a tree for the last 2+ year So I did.
Got her home washed her to see the condition of the paint.. So far not bad at all...
Next was the old fuel drained out all I could added a half can of SF, and 5 gals of new non Ethanol fuel.
Cleaned all the Spark plugs checked gaps all at 40mm.
Replaced coil #5 showed up bad on 1st scan.
She started right up ran really rough then got better, She is in safe mode I scanned it with my Innvo 3100 and got a P0507. Engine is idle is around 1200.
Dont want to invest to much into this car if the motor is shot.
Once I run half this fuel out ill check the plugs then do a compression test on all the cylinders. If thats ok, Ill check for vacuum leaks.

So there's my story ...lol

Jay

Welcome to the forums Jay,

P0507 = Idle rpm higher than expected. Most likely cause is an air leak on the inlet between filter and throttle body.

A basic scanner will read the powertrain (Pxxxx) codes. This is sufficient for most things that trigger the MIL. Be cautious with generic code lookups as these are often misleading interpreting Jaguar codes. When you need to ask questions about an error, always post the actual codes.
