new member saying hi - 2004 XJR
hi
new to the forum and wanted to say hi... I'm sure I was already a member here but can't find any login info (maybe I used an old email address, I dunno)
a few years ago I was at the top of a double ladder, it slid down the wall... as I slid down the wall I tried to reach out and grab the wall through the ladder... realised that wasn't working and put my other arm up in front of my face... saved me hiding my head but I forgot about the other arm which was through the ladder - so I crushed my left wrist when I hit the floor (it's all good now)
in hospital, right after operation on wrist, still on morphine I realised I needed an automatic car for a while... logged onto ebay on my phone... only automatics locally with auctions ending soon were a corsa and an XJ6.... bought the XJ6 and then fell in love with it (1997 3.2 XJ sport)
I was seriously shocked by how great the build quality was and how nice the interior was, I ran that for 3 years, then the gearbox gave out... and it was getting a bit rough anyway so sold it to a guy who had an XJ and wanted it for parts
bought an S type next, 2003 4.2V8, car was really nice to drive, loads of power etc.. but I was robbed... went for it's first mot, when the plastic trim underneath was pulled back the sills had rotten out, been filled with squirty foam and then painted over with underseal :-(
too much welding for me to do (had another accident at work, my back and left shoulder were/are a bit rough), sold that one off, guy had it fixed up and back on the road pretty quick
somewhere in the middle there I bought a 1994 Mk4 transit county (original 4x4 transit) - I wanted one since I was a little kid, but it needed work and a new engine... having loved the other jags I bought a knackered 1998 XJR, it was totally rotten, no hopes of repair... guy I bought it from bought it and swapped all the 'R' trim off and onto his XJ8... I pulled the engine loom etc. out ready to go into the transit van... project kind of stalled there, I've been crazy busy at work
oops, just realised how long this is getting
I just bought a 2004 XJR last week, and I love it, needs a few little jobs, new tyres have turned up, alloys are away getting refurbished, folding mirrors don't work, boot can only be opened with the key, and the parking sensors don't work
apart from those it's fantastic, I can fix those, and I love it :-)
