New XJ6 Owner
 

Greetings, everyone! I just picked up a 1984 XJ6 yesterday. This will be my first Jag, although not my first British car. Since my Land Rover was a 2001, this WILL be my first experience with a Lucas electrical system. . . ;-)

I'm sure I will have lots of questions as I go along and try to get this class old guy back to his glory days.

Great choice of cars, Chris.

Lucas electrics are a piece of cake IF you learn how to:

1) Clean electric connections
2) Clean ground points
3) Clean the end caps on the fuses
4) Clean the clips that the fuses snap into

When you've mastered those four skills you'll be able to handle Lucas electrics like an old pro :-)

Welcome to the forum !! Having had a 1980 4.2 for 14 years (sold it in 2002, I can tell you that ownership can be challenging, as the age of the car means there are bound to be jobs to do that previous owners never got round to do, and also you may have correct the then Jaguar assembly management and staff's somewhat casual attitude to assembly quality. However, in 1984, the Series 3 was starting to benefit from the corrective actions of a new management, so don't get too worried. Other thing about these cars is they are ideal for DIY mechanics, with minimal electronics in them.

Yeah. I got luck with this one! The guy I bought it from had done a TON of mechanical work on it, as well as body work. The interior is pretty poor, but it runs well. I got it for such a steal that I think I'm in a really good position with it. And it's dead sexie.

Welcome Chris, and congrats on the new car. You are going to have an absolute blast, and look good whilst having it! I was driving the Jag yesterday and had to drop my 12 year old off early to his band concert at school. He was all spiffed up and asked what car we were taking, to which I replied 'the Jag.' His reply, 'good.' :)

Nice older XJ thanks for sharing pics, and as you're now part of our "extended" family I'm sure we can help with most queries you may have.....WAell, not me, but the Jag gurus and Avid DIY ers we have here will I'm sure!
